The Plot

That day the duchess regularly come to Irene room to nurse her back to health. Irene face finally regain colours and no longer pale.
The duchess managed her food and drink, even bringing her some nourishment.
She also accompanied Irene when the old physician comes by to check her condition. Libby is happy seeing her young lady seems to be in good spirits whenever the duchess come visited her. The old physician check her condition. Seeing her improvement in health, make all of them feel relief.
The duchess fed porridge to Irene.
Irene happily accepted the food. She had longed for a mother's care. To have the chances to see her mother, alive and well. That is all she wanted. In this life, she wants to live happily with her mother.
In that moment of happiness is interrupted, when the duke arrives in the room.
The duchess stops feedings Irene. Her expression turn to worried and afraid. Irene saw it.
The duke came in with a stern look.
"Your grace..." All of them then greet towards him. Except Irene.
The duke then walk towards the bed, looking at Irene.
"You're finally look like decent person." The duke looks satisfied.
Irene didn't retort nor response. For she is ignoring the man in front of her.
"You'll be wed with the crown prince, as promised. Three days for now, the wedding will be held. If you try to escape again, you will have to face the consequences." The duke then lean forward.
"A consequences that you will hope to never dared cross me." He said with a lower voice. Irene can hear the threatening in his tone, but she remains unflinched.
While, the duchess looks at them, feeling concern.
"Till that day, you'll remains at home and forbidden to go outside." The duke left the room after saying his piece.
The duchess took a sit beside Irene, when they are finally alone.
"Dacia....do you really want to marry the crown prince?" She asks.
Irene look at the duchess.
"What if I don't?"
The duchess was surprised.
"Then...then I...I will try to talk to your father out of it....I will persuade him...if necessary..."
"No, mom. You don't need to do anything. If anything...it will only make it worse..." Irene said as she mumble the last sentence in lower voice.

"You don't have to worry about anything, mom." Irene smile, reassuring her mother. The duchess looks at her with sad eyes.
"I'm sorry...that I can't do anything for you. I'm sorry for being a worthless mother...."
Hearing her mother self-blame, Irene hold her mother hand.
"You're not to blame, mom. Believe me...to me, you're everything that I need. You might don't know, but your very existence in this universe, is like a salvation to me." She said, earnestly. The duchess couldn't help but feel touched and guiltier, how her youngest child think so highly of her, when she had been so absent in her children life, almost everyday until they've grown of age. She feels so undeserving. Tears escaped from her eyes. Irene looking at her mom cried, smiles as she wipe away her mom tears.
She is determined whatever reason that she had been teleported in this world, she is forever grateful because she get to meet her mother. Irene already lost someone precious to her due to her try to escape the plot. So now, she doesn't want to do the opposite in risk of losing another. Since it is written in the novel, that the villainess is to be wed with crown prince, so be it. All she care about is her mother safety. In the plot, the duke doesn't care about his wife. The duchess is just baron's daughter. Because of her status, many were against with the union. However, the duke require someone with a lower status to be his wife. He married the duchess only to have a future heir. Their marriage was bestow by the king and queen, so no one in court dare to go against it. After she delivered the future heir, for the dukedom, she is no longer needed. The duchess was secluded to the east tower, far from her children. Therefore, she is never included in raising her children. That's why, Dacia and her brother never care about their mother well-being. For they know, that their mother existence in the family is not important. The duchess could only live to see her children grow distance towards her. Since then, her role in the novel is minimal. For she is just an extra character for the development of the plot. But according the ending of the villainess, the whole family of the Wickson was executed. Which means the innocent duchess is also killed for her daughter's sin. Therefore, to prevent that ever happened, Irene decided she will do whatever it takes to protect her mother. That is her sole purpose now. For her mother. She needed to find a way to do it.
"Libby...can you please give me a paper and a pen?" Irene asks for it.
