Chapter 57

l couldn't ask Alex what he meant throughout the whole party but it bothered me a lo and worse of all Fallon seemed to know but she said l should ask Alex. My mind was all over the place to l told Fallon l was going to the restroom. l went upstairs and entered a random room. l sat in the balcony of that room looking at the stars that l didn't notice someone was standing behind me.
"Not a party fan" l heard him say but l didn't tun to look at him as l continued gazing at the stars.lt was so beautiful up there. Even more beautiful than this castle we were in. l didn't want to talk to the man behind me though.
"Not a people's fan in general "l said.
"Neither am l princess"he said sitting next to me. His presence made me feel a certain kind of warm.
"Shouldn't you be out there entertaining the guests considering that your family is the one hosting the party" l said looking at him but he didn't look like he cared about what l said.
"My dad will entertain his guests princess but l am right where l want to be" he said holding my cheek and l couldn't help but lean on his warm hand.
"Alex said something that's been bothering me" l said turning to look ahead in order to avoid staring in his eyes but he held me by my chin to look at him.
"Look at me when you talk" he said and l couldn't help but blush a bit.
"Care to explain "l said trying to stop the red in my cheeks from growing further.
"Let's just forget about what Alex or anyone else says "he said to me and l nodded. Geez this guy had a way of making me agree with anything he says.
We stayed there for a while talking about anything and everything we could think of and it made me realize that l like Killian a lot. He told me that his dad was already grooming him to be the CEO of his company even though he was just 18. l understood why he didn't smile a lot though. At such a young age where one was supposed to be experiencing teenage hood he was faced with the responsibilities of running his father's legacy.
Killian had grown up with my brothers because his father and mine were friends but something had torn them apart because of which Alex and Killian never talked to each other again despite being best friends but l was going to bring them together again even though l didn't know what tow them apart.
l rejoined the party after we talked because Killian said that my brothers were going to come look for me if they didn't see me for a while and we both knew that if my brothers saw us together then they would flip. They was already conflict between both the families and l didn't want to add more.

The month after the party was absolutely perfect. Killian and l got close in that month.l met him in the pretext of meeting Fallon and my brothers didn't find out a thing. He took me to the movies, museums,zoos, restaurants and so much more.Everyday l looked forward to seeing him.
Fallon and l became the best of friends and we were as inseparable so much that Mallory, Cora and Sergio and l hung out even less. Alexa did come back to school but she didn't want to talk or be near me and it suited me just fine because l didn't care about her.
My dad gave me space to grow but we were still as tight and better yet today was my 16th birthday.
My dad made me skip school because he wanted my sweet 16 to be the best birthday ever and it was. l woke up to breakfast that was cooked by dad and my brothers, and they sang me happy birthday. In the afternoon my whole family joined us for lunch and it made me happy to see them. l got so many gifts from my uncles because they said they were paying for lost time and it made me cry.
In the evening dad had arranged for a masquerade ball and l was so excited to celebrate my birthday. Fallon was right by my side the whole evening and my other three friends came as well but they seemed more interested in the food not that l mind.
l was disappointed that Killian couldn't come through because of an emergency at work but he had given my gift to Fallon which l was yet to see. Today was definitely one of the best days of my life and l was glad that l got to spend it with my family and friends.
"Can l have your attention please "dad said clicking his wine glass with a folk and the room went quiet.
"Today we are celebrating one of the most people in my life, my daughter" he said gesturing me to join him and l went to stand beside him.
"My girl version mini me, l am so proud of the girl you've become and the woman that you're growing to be. You have never given me a reason to hang my head in shame and l hope you never do. You are the kindest and sweetest person that l have ever met and it makes me wonder who you take after. So today my princessa l am telling you to never change. Always be this version of you--" gunshot shots rang across the whole place and people began to scream.
Dad held his hand out for me to take but before l could someone shot his stomach and l screamed and due to the shock of seeing my dad in that condition l couldn't move. l didn't even see the person behind me until l felt an injection in my shoulder and everything went blank.
