CASSIE WAS ONLY NOW leaving the bar. it was about 1:30am, and obviously the hotel was dead silent, except for maybe the one small group of women coming back in, probably from a night club or something, assumingly from the sparkly dresses.
patrick had kindly offered to stay with her to keep her company, but cassie urged him off, watching him leave. what she didn't expect to see, was patrick go up and talk to tashi, from what she could tell, it wasn't the best catch-up as patrick was smirking whilst tashi was glaring daggers at him.
but as cassie watched patrick, art watched her, she'd never seen him like that, a deer in headlights. as if she was a ghost from his past, which, she technically was.
the woman checked the time on her phone, grabbing it and leaving the bar, sighing as she walked away, her black heels clicking on the floor.
why would matt bring up art? and especially when they broke up?
in all honestly, cassie would be lying if she said she didn't know exactly why matt was asking, and she wondered exactly the same thing.
cassie pressed the up button on the elevator, waiting for it to come as she leant beside it, chewing on the inside of her cheek.
her thoughts were all over the place, darting from one thing to another as she stared down at the . why would he ask that? did he know about what happened with her and art in 2015?-
cassies eared perked up at the small ding of the elevator. cassie went to walk in, but she was stopped by the previous person in the elavator stood there, gawking at her.
cassie looked up to be met with art. art donaldson.
cassies eyes widened, staring right back at him, the two spoke over eachother "hey-" "hi." cassie let out a humourless chuckle, as art went to speak, the elevator started to close, the blonde scrambled to stop it, placing his hand over it to stop the sensors before stepping out.
he smiled at her, this was the closest they'd been in proximity for about 4 years.
cassie smiled sheepishly, brushing her light hair behind her back. arts hands were shoved into his grey sweatpant bottoms, his blonde hair slightly ruffled as if he had just woken up.
art shook his head, speaking somewhat reluctantly "you look good crybaby." he spoke, smiling without his mouth, cassie was slightly taken aback by this, her cheeks turning a slight scarlet- wait, what?
he wasnt wrong though, she did. she hadnt aged a day in his eyes, still beautiful. she dressed different though, she wore heels and a blue dress which against her sides perfectly.
cassie let out a small chuckle, glancing at the floor before taking her eyes back up to art, she nodded, "so do you donaldson."
"why are you here?" he asked, titling his head at her slightly. cassie crossed her arms over her torso, "my dad, he had an extra ticket to the challenger." the girl spoke, "i had no idea you were playing art- i wouldn't have-" the girl stuttered out,
art just shook his head at her, "it's a big event. you're a tennis fan." he shrugged nonchalantly, acting as though he was uno based by her being there.
cassie nodded, art swirled his tongue in his cheek, glancing down at her wedding ring, "matthew?" he asked, motions to the ring that sat on her finger. arts expression hardened a bit, like patrick, art was fully aware that they were getting a divorce, purely because of the fact that in arts words, matthew was an ungrateful prick. ungrateful because he was married to cassie, art thought that would be the dream.
cassie let out a shaky sigh, "soon to be divorced." the girl smiled at him, art looked at her with sympathetic eyes, one of the perks of knowing cassie for as long as he did was that he could still read her every emotion.
"are you and patrick a thing?" the blonde asked, shifting his stance.
cassie furrowed her brows, she want to entertain the seemingly annoyed art in front of her, who was itching for an answer.
"why do you ask?"
"i saw you with him, at the bar earlier on. he was practically ontop of you." art spat,
it wasn't his business, to be frank. cassie really, really wanted to drag this out now.
the girl shrugged, "i'm his coach." that was a lie. she hadn't formally agreed to that yet. but art didn't need to know that.
art nodded his eyebrows raised high as he stood there for a minute, lips pursed, art swallowed dryly, "i heard you have a daughter?"
"yeah, dahlia." cassie smiled.
yeah that was a slap in the face.
art was suddenly taken back to the few times they would be in his room, cassie laid on his chest as he ran his fingers through her dark hair, they would plan their lives together, their little home in italy, and their two kids, dahlia and lily. art was their dad. not fucking matthew warren.
arts expression softened, his mouth went to move but no words came out. he let out a small huff of air, "how old is she?" he asked, he had assumed she would be 2, something like that.
"she's 4." cassie smiled, pulling out her phone to show her lock screen of her and dahlia. it was a picture of the two at the beach, cassie had a long yellow dress on while dahlia had a frilly pink one on as she sat at cassies hip.
arts eyes widened slightly, matthew had black hair, very black. cassie naturally had very dark brown hair. dahlia had bright blonde hair. art shook the thought out of his head, trying to calm himself with the fact that most children had blonde hair when they were born that naturally turned darker.
but dahlia was four. that means she was born around 2015 or 2016, but, 2015 is when cassie and art-
"why are you down here anyway?" cassie asked, tucking her phone into her pocket as she cut off arts train of thought.
truthfully. art and tashi had an argument over his future in tennis, about the fact that art could go on to do more, but tashi didn't respect what art actually wanted to do. art wanted to get his life together. to finally have a family.
but no, art was just tashis trophy case. just someone to do what she couldn't.
"i just couldn't sleep." art shrugged.
