"Mother!"

"No, Camryn."

"But Mother!"

"No."

Camryn furiously stared at her mother. "I'm tired of being stuck here. It's time I proved myself to everyone. I want to help you get the crown!" Her mother, the Enchantress, turned up her nose and started to walk away.

"Mother!"

The Enchantress turned back to her daughter and waved her hand, silencing her. Death glistened in her eye. "Camryn, how many times do we have to discuss this? You will not go to The United Kingdoms of Royalty! You will stay away from the crown! It's dangerous."

"But!"

"No. No buts. There's nothing good over there. Over there are rules and snotty royalty. It's safe here. I can get the crown myself" The Enchantress said rules and royalty like it left a bad taste in her mouth. "There's nothing in The United Kingdoms of Royalty. I forbid you to even think of what's over there." With that, her mother left without allowing her to respond.

"Ahhhhhh," Camryn screamed, the bare stone walls of their castle amplifying the sound. Her mother was such a control freak. Camryn could do anything she wanted in The Land of Evil, but even thinking of the other side was forbidden. Camryn scowled and stormed off in the direction opposite of her mother. You would think that the Daughter of the Enchantress could have more freedom. Her mother was in more stories than any other character, even the Evil Queen. She sent Brier Rose into a hundred-year sleep, turned a prince into a beast, and locked a little girl in a tower. Her mother could do all that, but not let her daughter have the chance to make her legacy. Camryn ran her hands over the cold walls. This place felt like a prison at times. Her mother was probably gone by now taking any chance of further discussion with her. No one knows what the Enchantress really does or where she goes. Camryn herself only knows that she's trying to get her crown back. Her mother had created this crown. It was pure gold that looked like twisted thorns. Six jewels go in the crown. When all the pieces are combined the crown has unlimited power. Or that's what everyone says. Every few months the Enchantress visits, but only for a few hours, then leaves again to do... who knows what? Deep down, Camryn knew that she loved her. Or as much as an Enchantress can love their daughter. The girl slid down the wall. It was cold and hard. Camryn curled her arms around her knees and hid her head letting her braided white hair fall over her. It was not fair. She has to live in her mother's shadow never getting a chance to write her own story. Maybe if good and evil hadn't been separated? She sighed. The kings and queens created an enchantment to separate the good people from the evil. Life on the good side was full of rules but on this side, anyone could get away with anything, as long as they had the power to back them up. The Evil Queen ruled The Land of Evil only because the Enchantress was too busy. Then they separated the kingdom that used to be called Querencia into The Land of Evil and The Kingdoms of Royalty. The crown was taken away along with all the magical artifacts. They took the jewels out of the crown and entrusted each of the six royal families to look after a jewel. This way no one could have the full power of the crown.

"Hey, Camryn. I just saw your mother leave. What did you do this time?"

Camryn stood and jogged toward the door that only her closest friend knew about. Ransom was her closest and only friend. All the other kids were scared of her. She quietly stepped around the corner and jumped out to startle him. "BOO!"

Ransom smirked at her, not even flinching. "Ha! You need to try better. You're getting predictable." He ran his hand through his raven black hair that stuck up in places.

She held her hands up. "Whatever, your highness."

Ransom's smile faltered as he stared at her with his icy blue eyes. "What's with your mother?"
