Whitney had snuck out of the castle on many occasions but she'd never snuck someone in. As soon as they had come up to the edge of the forest Whitney had realized how hard this was going to be.
"You could turn yourself invisible or both of us right?"
Camryn smirked. "I could turn a hundred men invisible as long as they were touching." The bush she was hiding behind was sticking a branch up her nose.
Camryn shifted slightly and got a rude hush from her friend.
"Would it be better if I was still visible or not?"
"I think you should stay visible. You say that you do this a lot so someone must have noticed. It'd be weird if you just appeared in the castle."
"Right, follow behind me." The princess ran across the clearing to the edge of the castle wall. Camryn vanished and followed in close pursuit. The small door was shorter than Camryn. Whitney held it open for a few moments then shut and locked it behind them. Inside was a dark but dry hallway. It looked scarcely used. Most of the guest rooms were located in this wing of the castle. When guests were not here it was mainly used for collecting dust.
Whitney sneezed. The girls froze waiting to see if someone heard them. Thankfully no one had. The princess led them through many rooms and doors to a big door.
"This one leads out to the main hall so be very careful."
Camryn nodded even though Whitney couldn't see her. The princess cracked open the door and the girls squeezed out. This hall was well-lit and had candles lining the walls. It was empty of people at the moment, so Whitney ran as fast as she could to her room. She knew no maids would be their. She always told them she could clean her own room. When they were both safely in her room Whitney finally remembered to breathe. She took a big gulp of air and then breathed it out in a sigh of relief.
"We made it."
Camryn appeared again. She was grinning widely. "We did, didn't we?" The room was the same as it had been the last time she was there. Cloth and fabric lined the floor. Patterns were strewed across her bed.
Whitney scooted the stuff on her bed to one side to make room for the girls to sit down. "Feel free to use anything, and I mean anything."
Camryn looked like she was about to melt. "Do you happen to know where to find some new clothes? I just need something that isn't rags. It gets really cold sometimes."
Whitney held back a grin. "I think I could find some of the servant's spare clothes. They'll be the most comfortable. I'm guessing you don't want to wear a dress."
Camryn rolled her eyes and plopped into a chair. "I would prefer if I didn't have to fight in a dress." The princess got up and went over to her wardrobe. After moving aside a false panel in the back she took out a pair of men's clothes.
"I have some clothes that might work. Don't ask how I got them." She grinned at Camryn.
Maybe she wasn't the boring perfect girl everyone thought she was.
The clothes Whitney handed Camryn were too big for her. The princess fixed them up with a pair of scissors, needle, and thread once Camryn was in them. The pants were made shorter and the sleeves thinner. A belt was tied around her waist and her old boots cleaned up. When Camryn's new outfit was modified the girls collapsed onto the floor. They had so much to do and not a lot of time to get it all done. With the clothing emergency avoided they could turn their attention to more pressing matters.
Whitney propped herself on her hands. "I think I know what to do about Ransom's problem."
Camryn turned her head to look at her. "What is it?" She sat up and leaned against the hard wall. The rug under her was soft against her skin.
