Together the girls sat at the vanity in Whitney's room. The white paint on the wood had chipped away in a few places.
"Go ahead," Whitney said.
Camryn hesitated. She glanced at her friend. Both girls were nerviness. Reckless things like this hardly ever turned out well. But it was either contacting Camry's mother or waiting for her to hurt someone else.
Camryn stared into the glossy mirror. She brought up the best image she had of her mother. The Enchantress had been her mother for her whole life but at the moment Camryn could hardly think of her in that way. The mirror swirled with a dark inky black. Then the image of the Enchantress began to form. It became less blurry. Whitney clenched her fists.
"Don't," Camryn warned still focusing on the mirror.
"Camryn I'm surprised to see you so soon. Do we need to have another mother-daughter chat?"
Camryn drew all emotion from her face. The Enchantress didn't need to know how much that hurt her. "I want to meet you in person. I want to help you but you need to stop hurting my friends."
"Fine."
Camryn was startled a little. Fine? Already? Neither of them had expected it to go this smoothly.
"Yes fine but don't think for a moment that I trust you Camryn. You have a plan up your sleeve and you know I have one up mine. It's just a matter of who can fool the other longer."
Camryn gulped but she was right. She was so much like the Enchantress. "When and where shall we meet?" They had decided to let the Enchantress decide because it didn't matter to their plan.
"Tomorrow at noon at my castle."
"No."
The Enchantress looked shocked that Camryn had stopped her.
"I don't want to cross the enchantment."
"How about at the ruins of Rapunzel's original tower?"
"That works." Then Camryn let the mirror go blank. The Enchantress's face disappeared replaced by her own. She turned to Whitney. "I think you should stay here. It would be easier if I could do this myself."
"No!"
"Please! I won't let you get hurt. Everyone I love has gotten hurt. I don't want to be the next one dead."
"No. Isn't that what you said when I asked you to stay behind? Did you listen to me? No, you didn't just like I won't."
Camryn frowned at her friend. Whitney was right. She didn't stay behind so she had no place to tell Whitney to do it. "Fine just don't get hurt."
Whitney rolled her eyes. Maybe hanging out with the troublemakers had worn on her. "I can control time. If anything goes south I can give you a second chance."
Whitney told her parents they were taking a trip to make things right. Neither of them was paying much attention so they didn't ask. It was sort of sad to watch the couple heartbroken over the loss of their son. Camryn made a promise in her mind that when she found Ransom she would bring him back to them. The white horse was still hyped and ready to go. Whitney rode Destiny which Kyle left at the castle. Destiny loved Ransom but also liked the girls.
"Whitney?" Camryn asked after a few minutes of silence. The princess looked at her. "Do you ever wonder who your biological parents are?"
"Sometimes but I don't care if I ever find them."
