There are three types of magic in the world. There are special abilities, fairy magic, and the power of a promise. Special abilities are the most known type of magic. It's the kind everyone wishes they had. Then there is fairy magic which only fairies or half-fairies have. Fairies can change their appearance and creative enchantments. Camryn while she is part fairy can't change her appearance like her mother. The last type of magic is the power of a promise. Promises are binding and have power in themselves. Promises just might come true but not always in the way you'd expect them.
King William wanted to accompany the three teens but was called away. With all the attacks he had more work than usual and it was catching up with him. There was paperwork and he was constantly being mirrored. That didn't stop them from going though. So they were in a carriage on their way to Adurant.
Camryn sat across from the princess next to Ransom. He was watching out the window looking at everything that passed by them. Though there were only trees Camryn knew he sensed all the wildlife in the forest. It must be overwhelming for him. He often got overwhelmed by things like that. They were similar in that way.
The princess was talking about some of the royal gossip. Camryn was struggling to keep all the names straight. Whitney was going on and on about people Camryn had no idea about.
"Whitney, I'm sorry but I don't know what you're talking about."
The princess chuckled. "It's fine. I didn't think so." The carriage swayed slightly. "I was just saying I'm excited for my fifth year of school."
Camryn scrunched up her face. "You're fifteen?"
"Yes." Her mouth opened wide. "Wait are you fifteen too?"
Camryn nodded. "Is this school the Ridgeview Academy? That's the royal school right?"
Ridgeview Academy was the most prestigious boarding school in The Kingdoms of Royalty. Only royals and rich students went there. School lasts from age eleven to age seventeen or eighteen depending on when your birthday is. They study all types of magical subjects.
"Ya, but I can't believe we're the same age! Is Ransom fifteen too?"
Upon hearing his name he faced them. "No, I'm sixteen."
"I always thought you guys were like seventeen or something." Whitney sounded pleased. "This might sound rude but do you have abilities?"
Camryn fought to keep the smug look off her face. "Uh no, we don't. I thought only royalty or people who have royal blood get abilities."
The troublemakers shared a look. Don't say anything, Camryn thought.
"Oh, well I don't either."
Camryn rubbed her hands together. "It would be cool though."
Whitney rolled her eyes. "It would be. Both my parents have abilities. Even Halt has one."
The troublemakers shared another look. It would be extremely helpful to know what their abilities were but before Camryn could ask further the carriage halted.
"We must be here," Whitney stood stretching her legs.
Halt opened the door and helped the princes down. Ransom left second and in turn helped Camryn. She took his hand in hers and stepped out. The brisk chilly air felt refreshing.
Whitney started marching behind Halt towards the white marble pillared building. Ransom followed behind.
"After we see everything in the museum we can get some pastries from a vendor." Whitney never had friends to do fun things with. She was going to make the most of the time they had.
