Whitney was the first to rush over to Ransom as he held a limp Camryn in his arms. She looked so peaceful lying there but he knew she must be in tremendous pain. She was so close to death. A wound like this would need some serious magic.
Whitney slid down next to them. "Camryn! Camryn! This is really bad." Fear was written across her face. "Mother!" Queen Ebony was at their side in the blink of an eye.
The queen had no problem leaning down and getting herself messy. "Ransom this is very bad indeed. I need you to carry her over here." Queen Ebony pointed to a table that previously had food strewn across it. Ransom nodded. Slowly he straightened his legs with Whitney supporting Camryn's head and they placed her down on the table. Queen Ebony ripped the thin fabric around Camryn's waist revealing the deep wound. As soon as the other teens had recovered they crowded around Queen Ebony to watch her work. Ransom kept telling himself to take deep breaths. She's going to be fine. Magic can heal almost anything. She'll be fine. Ransom watched his mother and sister begin to stop the blood with a bunched-up tablecloth. Whitney held the cloth in place to stop the flow of blood. Queen Ebony sighed slightly. That had to be a good sign right?
"Your Highness, Queen Ebony, Mother, whatever, is she going to be okay?" Ransom braced himself for the worst. He didn't think he could live if she died. His cocky boyish attitude was replaced with a thick wall to hide what he truly felt.
His mother shook her head without looking up at him. "We don't know yet. It could go either way."
"Mother, what can I do?" Whitney kept asking. She paced back and forth. Whitney's hands shook like an earthquake.
"Kyle, can you help me?" Queen Ebony leaned over Camryn.
Kyle came to her side and bowed. "Yes."
"Get Whitney out of here."
Kyle nodded. "Yes, Your Highness." Kyle picked Whitney up over his shoulder.
The princess kicked and screamed for him to put her down. "Kyle stop. Camryn needs me. She needs me." Tears began to stream down her cheeks. It was at that moment that Ransom trusted her one hundred percent. If she cared this much about Camryn then he could trust her.
"Ransom." His mother stopped what she was doing to look up at him. "None of her vital organs were sliced. That's very good." A wave of relief and hope washed through him. As long as Camryn was alive he would have hope. She'll be fine. There's no way Camryn would leave him all alone to figure out what to do next. She knew he needed her. Ransom took another deep breath. He knew it was not the time to freak out but inside he was dying right along with her.
"I'm going to start the magical healing part." Ransom turned back to Queen Ebony and then glanced at King William who watched with the crowd. "I'm a healer," She explained when he looked at her oddly. Queen Ebony forced a smile on her lips. The queen snapped her fingers and waved her other hand over Camryn's stomach. Ransom blinked. Shouldn't something be happening right now? He didn't know anything about magical healing but shouldn't the wound be healing?
Queen Ebony shook her head. She waved her hand over Camryn's stomach again. still, nothing happened. She faced Ransom. "It's not working." Queen Ebony couldn't hide the panic in her voice.
Ransom stopped bilking. "What do you mean? It has to work." Not working? Camryn can't die. She just can't. Ransom swallowed all his feelings of doubt. Camryn's going to be fine. She's going to be fine but he believed those words less than he had before.
His mother shared a look with her husband. That's not a good sign. "I don't know. It should be healing the wound but it isn't. It's like the wound is fighting me."
