Two days later, Kuldeep hit 'submit' with a sigh of relief, the weight of the project finally lifted from his shoulders. He'd managed to finish it, but the cost had been high. He knew he needed to make it up to Yuzhi, and he had the perfect plan.

Yuzhi had mentioned his week-long break from school, and Kuldeep had decided to join him. He'd taken a week off work, a rare occurrence, and was eager to surprise his boyfriend.

He waited outside the school gates, his heart racing as he watched the students spill out, chattering and laughing.

As the last bell rang, Yuzhi emerged, surrounded by a group of his fellow teachers. They were all talking and laughing, and Kuldeep felt a twinge of pride seeing Yuzhi in his element.

But as he approached, he noticed something was off. Yuzhi's laugh was forced, and his eyes were dull, not their usual sparkling self.

Kuldeep slowed his pace, not wanting to interrupt, but his curiosity was piqued when he heard one of the teachers say, "Maybe you're just too much for him, Yuzhi. That's why Kuldeep never picks you up from school."

The other teachers nodded in agreement, and Yuzhi's smile grew more strained. Kuldeep's heart sank. He hadn't realized his work had affected Yuzhi so deeply.

Finally, Yuzhi spotted him, and his eyes lit up. The teachers turned, noticing Kuldeep for the first time. "Oh, you're here," Yuzhi said, his voice too bright. "I didn't know you were coming."

"Surprise," Kuldeep said, trying to keep the disappointment out of his voice. "I thought I'd take you out for dinner."

The teachers exchanged knowing glances before dispersing, leaving Yuzhi to collect his things. Kuldeep stepped closer, reaching out to take Yuzhi's hand. "You okay?" he asked softly.

Yuzhi nodded, his smile wobbly. "Yeah," he said. "Just a bit tired."

They walked in silence to the car, the tension palpable. Kuldeep knew he needed to address the issue, but he didn't know where to start.

He'd always assumed Yuzhi understood the demands of his job, but the conversation he'd just overheard suggested otherwise.

Once they were in the car, Kuldeep took a deep breath. "What did they mean?" he asked, his voice gentle. "About me not picking you up?"

Yuzhi's eyes darted to the side, avoiding his gaze. "It's nothing," he said, his voice tight. "Just work stuff."

"Yuzhi," Kuldeep said, his tone firm. "We need to talk."

Yuzhi sighed, his shoulders slumping. "They think I'm too clingy," he admitted. "That you don't have time for me because of me."

"That's not true," Kuldeep said, his voice fierce. "I've been the one neglecting you."

Yuzhi looked at him, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "But why?"

Kuldeep took a moment to gather his thoughts. "Because I've been so focused on work," he said finally. "And I've let it come between us."

"I know," Yuzhi said, his voice small. "But I don't want to be the reason you don't succeed."

Kuldeep pulled the car over, turning to face him. "You're not a reason," he said, his voice earnest. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me. And I'm going to prove it."

Yuzhi searched his eyes, looking for reassurance. "How?"

"By being present," Kuldeep said, taking Yuzhi's hand in his. "By listening to you, by supporting you, by making you a priority."
