To say Juniper was nervous would be an understatement.
After finishing up at the provisional license training for the day, Inasa had told her that their mother wanted to meet her. So, she had the day to go west to meet the mother she never had.
Her palms were drenched as she sat with her hands in her lap on the train ride. For the day, she decided to put a new quirk nullifying bracelet on just in case and wore a blue blouse, black formal pants, and white sneakers. She messed with the bracelet until she arrived at her stop.
Getting out of the train only made the reality of things settle in Juniper's mind, until she spotted Inasa waving at her. He had a wide smile on his face as usual while waving his arm wildly, "Juni! Juni! You made it okay!!!"
She couldn't help but return his smile, "Nasa! Nasa! It was a longer train ride than I expected. Were you waiting long?"
He shook his head and carried her bag for her as they began walking through the streets, "I just got here! Come on, Mom is looking forward to meeting you and is making lunch right now. How are you feeling about this?"
Juniper wasn't sure. She hummed, thinking about all of her emotions that felt chaotic in her mind, this time naturally formed. After taking a deep breath, she decided on an answer, "I'm nervous but excited. Do you think she'll like me? Why didn't she tell you about me before all this happened?"
Inasa pat her head, a habit he was starting to form when he wanted to show his twin some support, "Of course she'll like you!!! I asked her about you after the exam... Mom says she wanted to put Dad and everything about him in the past after the divorce. She's always wondered about you but because of Dad and everything... Either way, I know she'll love you right away Juni!! It's a mother's instinct!"
The girl became quiet, grabbing Inasa's hand for some form of solace and swinging their hands slightly. "Thanks Nasa." The rest of the walk was silent as the twins made their way into a neighborhood that was quaint.
They stopped in front of a small one story house that was painted colorfully and had many small items in the yard like a gnome, a few flamingo stands, a swing hanging from a tree, and a beautiful garden of flowers that were clearly well taken care of. It had years and years of a happy childhood that Juniper wished she could have had even a smidge of.
It made Juniper feel small.
As if she were a little girl again, one who was being ignored by her father and left behind day after day.
As if she was left alone with no food to eat for days.
As if she were forced to fend for herself with no one to guide her at all.
As if she were pushed by her father, hitting her head against the table and blacking out once more.
As if her quirk had just awakened and began eating her up again.
As if she were a helpless little girl who just needed someone to reach out their hand to her.
As if her world was turned upside down.
Juniper faltered in her step, backing up as everything crashed down on her at once. She dropped down to the floor and curled her knees into her chest while holding her head in her hands.
It had been years since she felt so weak.
Inasa began panicking, "JUNI!!! Juni what's wrong?!?!! What happened to you?!?!??"
She could barely hear his words as her breathing became rapid and body began to shake. Tears poured out of her eyes involuntarily as she fell to pieces in the front yard. Everything was crashing down on her and it was as if everything was going the wrong way.
