Alec
(I have NOT edited this chapter - I just wanted to get it out asap for you guys!)
Fiddling with the leather tassels of my bracelet, I looked up anxiously at the closed door whilst many doctors were assessing my wife.
I was about 3 seconds away from breaking the door down, effectively disrupting the initial assessment that apparently needed to be done after coming out of an induced coma.
The only sounds I could hear were the sounds of my woman screaming and crying hysterically. I clenched the material of my trousers to prevent myself from losing it and swiftly taking Arabella out of this place and back home where she should be.
"Mr Boewen?".
Lifting my eyes away from the floor, I looked up to the sight of one of the doctors closing Arabella's door behind him.
"Don't touch me!" I heard Arabella scream from behind the closed door.
Standing up abruptly, I looked at the doctor who was blocking my path whilst shaking his head.
"I'm not going to sit by whilst my wife is in distr"-
"Mr Boewen, we believe your wife is experiencing acute delirium. This is often seen in patients after coming out of a medically induced coma" the doctor explained.
"What makes you think it's delirium?" I questioned wondering how they got to that conclusion.
"Right now, she believes she's married to two men and that they're both gangsters. She keeps crying about how she's an accomplice to crime. We're going to monitor her clos"-
"It's okay Doc, I'll watch over her. Trust me, my presence will heal her" I smiled in an attempt to conceal a smirk at his words. Our story was a far from normal one, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
The doctor stared at me as if I had grown three head. He eventually sighed and nodded as he gestured to the room.
"Just press the buzzer if you require any assistance. Acute delirium can sometimes cause aggression and agitation" the doctor added before peering through the door to ask the staff to leave.
Watching them all leave one by one, I stood before the partially opened door and felt my heart rate quicken.
Clicking my head to one side, I let out a deep breath before taking my first steps towards the door.
"Doll" I breathed out quietly as I shut the door behind me.
To think I nearly lost the only woman gave me reason and purpose to live. To think I could have lost the mother of our child. Too many times has she been close to death. But this was the final chapter in our book of pain and suffering. Now, I was going to expose her only to a world of love, pleasure, security and warmth.
Arabella immediately stopped tugging at the wires attached to her body and stared straight into my eyes.
"Alec?" she gasped out, her hands instantly reaching for me almost childlike for a parent's affection.
Running into her open arms, I carefully pulled her into my body. My arms tightened around her small body as she sobbed uncontrollably into my shoulder. All the fear of losing her, all the anxiety of being a good dad and husband, all the worry over Leon, all of it instantly broke me the moment my body connected with Arabella's.
I wasn't a spiritual man, but by God above do I believe soulmates are real. I believe there is a person out there for everyone. Not all paths will cross, but Arabella is my soulmate. Everything about her heals me.
