X woke up in the middle of the night, gasping for air.

His nightmares had come back.

X groaned, rubbing his face tiredly. He'd been hoping to get a lot of sleep during his next 2 weeks of break, but he could now guess that he'd be getting less shut-eye than usual.

The human sat up, quietly making his way out of bed. He made it to his joint kitchen and living room, turning on the lights.

Two was nowhere to be seen, which didn't surprise X. He grabbed a cup, filling it up with water and looking out the window. It was dark outside, but it was raining, causing the house to be filled with the faint noise of pattering raindrops.

X sighed, draining his cup of all its water in one sip. He should probably just go back to sleep-

"So that's how you want to play, hm? Alright, game on~"

X whipped around at the voice, almost dropping his glass in the process.

But nobody was there.

X let out a shaky exhale, one of both relief and anticipation. He could see this ending badly, but he couldn't do anything else.

So, X headed back to bed, trying to catch sleep that would inevitably evade him.

-

It had been 2 weeks, and X had gotten about 3 nights of sleep.

What was worse was that he had to go to work today.

He groaned, starting his day and getting ready for work, lazily stumbling down his apartment stairs and into the driveway.

Nine had insisted on picking him up for some reason. The thing about Nine was that, without Six to keep her in check, she was usually late.

Extremely late.

X waited in the driveway, eyes closing before he forced himself awake. Finally, after a whole 30 minutes of struggle, X saw a white car skid into the driveway. Nine frantically waved from the driver's seat, and X jogged over, settling inside the car shutting the door behind him.

"We're late, we're late, we're so late!" Nine screeched, speeding onto the main road at what seemed like an illegal pace.

"Mhm. We have 5 minutes to get to work, Ninester. We're done for." X muttered tiredly, swaying dramatically each time the car rounded a corner. Nine glance at the mirror to look at X.

"Are you okay, X? You look like you haven't slept in days!" Nine exclaimed. X opened his mouth to say something when he looked outside of Nine's front view window.

"NINE HIT THE BRAKES!" X screeched. Nine refocused just in time to slam her foot down on the brakes, just barely saving them from crashing into another car. Nine groaned, realizing that they were stuck in traffic.

"We're screwed," Nine concluded. X nodded in agreement, slumping down in the backseat. Nine eyes him.

"You should take a nap, X. I'll call us in sick today- I'm really good at faking illnesses." Nine grinned. X shook his head, wanting to protest against sleep. However, his tired body got the better of him, forcibly shutting his eyes as he sunk into a long-need slumber.
