NINETEEN ✮towards the sun

AS KATE DROVE TOWARDS THE TORNADO, lainey sat in fear. she never felt so scared in her life. she wished tyler was with her. she wished she was with tyler. lainey gripped onto the truck handle tightly as she could. her eyes flickered up to the tornado, it was massive. it was bigger than anything she's ever seen before.
a tree branch came flying at the girls, causing them both to move their heads like it was going to hit the truck. the wind hit the truck, causing it to jump. they both could barely see, but lainey trusted kate. she never would've said this a few days ago, but she actually trusted kate. she thought if this all went wrong, at least they would be together.
lainey began to think of death.
she never thought about what would happen when she died, but she hoped it was good. she hoped she could see tyler, even though he couldn't see her. she hoped she was happy. she hoped it would all be okay. lainey shut her eyes in fear as debris hit the truck, causing it to be pushed over.
something exploded next to lainey and kate, causing them to gasp and duck. lainey looked over to see a massive fire ball fly across the sky and hit more silos. kate quickly stopped the truck, causing lainey's head to fly forward and smack the dashboard. "fuck!" lainey yelled as kate began to put the drills in the ground.
lainey looked outside in fear. this was it. these were her last few moments alive.
she looked over at kate, who shot rockets in the tornado. lainey looked down to see kate's hands over the button that would release the containers on the trailer. "kate!" lainey exclaimed, making kate look at her, "i'm sorry!"
"me too."
the tornado went over the truck, making lainey cover her ears in fear. the wind was so loud, it was making tears go to her eyes. after a few moments, kate pressed the button, but nothing happened. lainey looked at her in fear as kate continued to press the button. lainey slammed her hand down next to and pressed it again, the containers finally flying open. the truck began to move with the wind, the drills not being able to hold them.
lainey and kate both looked at the powder flying into the tornado, both sharing a smile. suddenly the trailer went into the sky as the truck began to slide more. lainey covered her head as kate let go of the steering wheel. "please. please." lainey whispered, "please." the truck went up in the air for a second, then went back down, causing lainey to let out a scream.
suddenly the truck flipped on lainey's side, causing the window to shatter in her face. lainey looked over at kate, reaching her hand out. kate grabbed it as the truck continued to flip. lainey shut her eyes, feeling her hand slip from her sisters as they both screamed in fear. the wind blew in lainey's face from the broken window, making lainey repeatedly smacked her head on the side of the truck.
she shut her eyes, feeling darkness start to consume her.
she screamed one last time before everything went black.

KATE CARTER WAS CRAWLING OUT OF THE TRUCK, blood dripping down from her head. she looked up to see tyler and javi running towards her, making her smile. "kate!" javi exclaimed as she slid out of the truck. javi and tyler both grabbed her, helping her sit up, "where's lainey!?" javi asked before tyler could.
kate pointed to the other side of the truck, making the two of them run to the other side. tyler bent down to see lainey hanging there, unconsious. "lainey!" tyler exclaimed before grabbing the door handle. javi and him both pulled on the door, hearing the rest of the gang run towards kate.
the door opened and tyler immediately reached down for his girl. blood ran down the side of her head, dripping on the ground. cuts were all over her body from the glass, making tyler shake his head. javi unbuckled the harness as tyler made sure she didn't fall on her head. he picked her up and placed her outside the truck, "lainey." tyler whispered, his eyes filled with tears. he put his head on her chest, listening for a heartbeat.
there was a faint one.
"shit! javi get an ambulance!" tyler called out to him, making the man nod and begin running towards the town, "lainey. open your eyes." he said, shaking her softly, "lainey, i'm right here." she didn't move, her head limp in his hands. "lainey! wake up!" boone had run over to the two, his eyes wide seeing the state lainey was in. "she's not waking up-"
"you gotta calm down, she's breathing right?"
"yes."
"okay good."
suddenly lainey's eyes slowly opened, a groan leaving her mouth. tyler sighed of relief, placing his forehead against hers. "ty... tyler?" lainey whispered, "is that you?"
"its me baby."
lainey gave a weak smile, "everything hurts."
"i know, i know. you're gonna be okay." she shut her eyes again, "no, keep your eyes on me. do not shut them." lainey opened her eyes again, looking at him, "lainey, i'm so sorry-"
lainey nodded, "i love you."
her eyes fluttered shut, her hand going limp in his. tyler went wide eyed as he shook her, "lainey! lainey!" he looked at boone, who just stared in complete fear.
"lainey!"
