✮WHAT IF LAINEY CARTER DIED THAT DAY?

GRIEF WAS SOMETHING TYLER OWENS NEVER EXPERIENCED.

he never had to go to a funeral. he never had to watch someone he loved get buried. he never had to deal with the grief and anger that came after death. he never expected the first person that he had to deal with this would be his best friend, the person he loved for years. he never expected lainey carter to die in his arms either. the minute she stopped breathing, tyler froze. every survival instinct that he had, disappeared. it took boone to shove him away so they could do cpr on her.

he just stared at the girl, her hand reached out for tyler. he couldn't move. his body was completely frozen. this couldn't be happening. she wasn't dead. this was all a joke. she played pranks, this was a prank! tyler tried to call out for her, but he couldn't move. he felt like collapsing. he felt like puking. 

boone tried to scream at lainey, yelling at her to wake up as he did cpr on her since tyler was frozen. everyone was staring in shock as she didnt move. kate was bawling on the ground, knowing that this was her fault. javi was still getting the ambulance, which was taking longer than expected. 

"come on lainey!" 

"breathe!"

"are you doing it right?"

"of course i am!"

"lainey breathe!"

tyler was spinning. he knew ben was next to him, the man not knowing what to do. he didn't expect lainey carter to be dead at the end of this. tyler turned away from the scene, looking towards the sun that began to appear. tears flooded his eyes. she was there. she was with them. tyler was grabbed by someone, "tyler! snap out of it!" boone screamed, "she's dead!" 

"i know." tyler replied, the first words he had spoken. 

"why are you being so calm?!"

tyler just stared at the dead girl on the ground. he was so close to losing it. tyler pushed past boone and immediately got on his knees next to her. "lainey!" tyler exclaimed before putting his hands on her chest, "lainey please." 

the ambulance grew closer and closer as tyler tried to save the woman he loved. tears ran down his face knowing that she was gone, but he couldn't stop. he couldn't let her go. tyler didn't realize that the paramedics were there until boone pulled tyler away from her. everything was a blur. he watched as they loaded lainey on a stretcher, yelling at each other as they began to load her on the ambulance. kate was load on there too, the woman bawling and not being able to speak.

the minute he lost eyesight of lainey, he turned around and immediately puked. everyone watched in disbelief as the girl they loved was taken away. "it's gonna be okay." someone told him, "it's gonna be okay."

it wasn't okay.

TYLER SAT ON THE SWINGS HIM AND LAINEY ONCE SAT ON. but this time, lainey was in the clouds, not next to him. the hospital tried everything they could, but she was gone- they couldn't save her. everyone was at the carter's for her memorial, but tyler couldn't go inside. all the memories would come back to him, and he couldn't handle it.

the sun began to set on the home, making tyler look over at it. tears ran down his face as he imagined sitting there with lainey next to him, talking about everything. "ty." boone stated from behind him, "we are heading out, are you staying here?" tyler looked back at him, they were all dressed up in black suits and ties. it was the most they ever cleaned up. "i know its hard."

tyler shook his head, "i wish she wasn't so stupid." 

boone sat down next to him, "she wanted to save us all. she did."

"she didn't even say goodbye." tyler stated, "i never said goodbye."

boone nodded, "no one got to."

tyler shook his head, "she was alive. she was alive in my arms. if we were a few minutes earlier, she would be here." he looked down at her necklace in his hands that kate gave him earlier. "she was so scared of dying." boone looked at his friend, "she was so scared of dying." tyler began to cry, "she went through so much the past few days, she didnt deserve this at all."

"i know man."

tyler heard thunder in the distance, which made lily walk over to the group. "we got a storm brewing in the north." she looked at the two, "if you two wanted to go..."

tyler looked back at the sun that was slowly disappearing. he looked at the necklace again before nodding, "lets do it." he looked at the group, "for her."

boone smiled, "for lainey."

tyler looked back at the sun and smiled. it was the first time he smiled in days. he knew this was what lainey wanted. she wanted them to continue everything. she wanted them to live their life because she barely got to. 

everyone looked towards the sun, knowing that lainey mae carter was smiling back at them.
