From the summit of the royal palace, Faidan took a drag on his cigarette, watching the sun's reflections sparkle on the sea.

He had never been able to enjoy such a panorama before, but he thought how beautiful the view would have been if the ruins didn't litter the kingdom of Dressrosa.

Behind him, Alessia's footsteps echoed on the debris as she sat down beside him with a measured sigh. He leaned closer, not hiding the hint of a satisfied grin.

Up close, her skin carried the scent of salt and cut wood, a familiar aroma that had not filled Alessia's lungs for fifteen years. She glanced at his poorly trimmed beard.

Thanks to Sugar's power, Faidan appeared to be forty years old, even after all these years.

"So... Conqueror's Haki, huh? I bet he didn't see that one coming."

Alessia's eyes shifted away from his face, casting a sideways glance. In front of them, the people of Dressrosa had just begun to stir.

She released another sigh, tired.

Of course, she hadn't expected the details of her exchange with Trafalgar Law to go unnoticed, given the volume of her voice and the damage she had caused there. But the idea of having let so much emotion and determination flow at once... made her far more feeble than she had been in recent months.

"I don't control it," she said quietly. "Rayleigh taught me everything he could. I have nothing left to learn theoretically, but I'm still struggling with the practical side, and since Conqueror's Haki isn't something you learn... it's even worse."

Faidan frowned.

Humility had never suited his niece, but today, more than any other day, he abhorred it. Alessia had done more to save Dressrosa than any pirate residing in the royal palace, for while Monkey D. had dealt with Donquixote, she had ensured that no one died until he managed to defeat him.
