Chapter 19:
A week had passed since the party, but the memory of that night lingered on. Ice found herself thinking about Micah more than she expected. Their brief but intense connection left her curious to see where things might go. She hadn't texted him since their Netflix and chill session, but the thought of reaching out crossed her mind more than once.
One afternoon, while the team was hanging out in the common room of their dorm, Ice finally decided to shoot Micah a text. It was casual, nothing too forward—a simple "Hey, how's it going?" She hit send and tried to focus on the conversation happening around her, but her mind kept drifting back to her phone.
Paige, who was sitting next to her, noticed Ice's distraction and smirked. "Waiting for a text back?"
Ice rolled her eyes but smiled. "Maybe."
"Is it from who I think it is?" Paige asked, her tone teasing.
"Yeah, it's Micah," Ice admitted. "Just checking in, seeing what's up."
Before Paige could say anything else, Ice's phone buzzed with a response. She quickly unlocked it and read Micah's reply.
Micah: "Hey! I was actually thinking about you. Wanna hang out sometime?"
Ice felt a flutter in her stomach as she typed out her response. "Sure, I'm free later tonight if you are."
Micah: "Perfect. How about I pick you up at 7?"
Ice agreed, and with plans set, she put her phone down, trying to play it cool. But she couldn't hide the smile that crept onto her face.
"What's got you grinning like that?" Kk asked from across the room, clearly noticing.
"Micah wants to hang out tonight," Ice said, trying to sound casual.
"Oooh, look at you," Kk teased. "Getting all excited for a date."
"It's not a date," Ice insisted, though she wasn't entirely sure of that herself. "We're just hanging out."
"Uh-huh, sure," Aubrey chimed in, grinning. "Just hanging out with a guy who's clearly into you."
Ice shook her head, laughing. "You guys are impossible."
The rest of the afternoon passed quickly, and before Ice knew it, it was almost time for Micah to pick her up. She went back to her room to get ready, choosing something comfortable but cute. She didn't want to overthink it, but she also wanted to look good.
At exactly 7, Micah texted her that he was outside. Ice took a deep breath, grabbed her jacket, and headed out to meet him. When she stepped outside, she saw him leaning against his car, a smile on his face as he spotted her.
"Hey," Micah greeted, opening the passenger door for her. "You look great."
"Thanks," Ice replied, feeling a little flustered by the compliment. "So, what's the plan?"
Micah shrugged, looking relaxed and easygoing. "I thought we could grab some food, maybe take a drive. Just hang out, like we said."
"That sounds good to me," Ice agreed, and they were off.
The evening was fun and laid-back, just like their first encounter. They got some takeout and drove around town, talking and laughing like old friends. Micah was easy to talk to, and Ice found herself opening up to him more than she expected.
After a while, they parked by a scenic overlook, the city lights twinkling below them. They ate their food in the car, continuing to chat about everything and nothing. It felt natural, comfortable, like they'd known each other for longer than just a week.
As they finished eating, Micah turned to Ice, his expression a little more serious. "I had a really good time with you the other night," he said. "I've been thinking about you a lot since then."
Ice felt her heart skip a beat. "Yeah, me too. It was...unexpected, but in a good way."
Micah smiled, reaching out to take her hand. "So, what do you think? Should we see where this goes?"
Ice looked down at their hands, then back up at him. "I think I'd like that."
With that, Micah leaned in, and Ice met him halfway, their lips brushing together in a soft kiss. It wasn't as intense as their first one, but it was full of promise—a promise of something more, something real.
When they finally pulled away, Ice couldn't help but smile. "Okay, this is definitely a date," she admitted.
Micah laughed, squeezing her hand. "Yeah, I'd say so."
They spent a little more time talking and enjoying each other's company before Micah drove her back to the dorms. When they pulled up, he walked her to the door, giving her one last kiss before saying goodnight.
Ice watched him drive away, a smile still on her face as she headed inside. She was greeted by Kk, Paige, and Aubrey, all of whom were waiting to hear how the night went.
"So?" Kk asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "How was it?"
Ice grinned, plopping down on the couch. "It was...amazing."
"I knew it," Paige said, giving her a playful nudge. "You're totally into him."
"Yeah, I am," Ice admitted, feeling a warmth spread through her. "I think this could actually go somewhere."
The girls were thrilled for her, and the rest of the night was spent gushing over every detail of the evening. It was clear that whatever was happening between Ice and Micah was just beginning, and her teammates were more than ready to support her every step of the way.
