Chapter 24:

The crisp autumn air was a refreshing change for Ice as she left her last class of the day and headed towards Micah's dorm. For the past few months, their Friday movie nights had become a cherished routine. Ice looked forward to these nights, enjoying the simplicity of spending time with someone who made her feel special.

But today was different. Micah had been unresponsive to her calls and texts. The sudden silence made Ice uneasy, but she brushed it off as a possible mix-up or a busy day. Determined not to let it spoil their plans, she decided to check on him in person.

Arriving at Micah's dorm, Ice was met with a locked door. Despite her usual approach of ringing the bell and waiting, she had an unusual inkling that something might be wrong. Micah had shared his door passcode with her previously, so she used it to let herself in, hoping to find him apologizing for being unreachable.

The soft strains of music filled the air as she entered the dimly lit room. Her heart pounded with anticipation, but what she saw next stopped her dead in her tracks. Micah was in bed with another girl, their clothes strewn about the room, and they were kissing passionately.

The sight was a gut punch. Ice's breath caught in her throat, her mind racing. Before she could process what was happening, Micah turned and saw her. His eyes widened in shock and guilt as he scrambled to pull on his clothes.

Ice felt a surge of betrayal and pain. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she turned on her heel, running out of the room. She stumbled down the hallway, her heart racing, and made her way to her car. The drive back to her dorm was a blur of sobs and red lights, her mind consumed by the painful scene she had just witnessed.

Back at her dorm, she rushed past her roommates who were lounging on the couch, their casual conversation abruptly halted by her distress. Ice locked herself in her room, burying her face in her pillow as she let the tears flow freely.

Minutes later, Paige, Kk, and Aubrey, concerned by Ice's abrupt departure and emotional state, knocked on her door. They entered cautiously, their faces etched with worry.

"Ice, what happened?" Paige asked gently, sitting on the edge of her bed.

Between sobs, Ice recounted the painful discovery. "I went to Micah's dorm for our movie night, but he wasn't answering. I used his passcode and... I found him with another girl. They were—" Her voice cracked, unable to continue.

Kk's eyes narrowed with anger, while Aubrey's expression hardened. "That's awful, Ice. I'm so sorry."

Paige nodded, her face reflecting her own sense of indignation. "We're going to handle this."

As the clock ticked towards midnight, Paige and Aubrey were still seething. They decided they couldn't let Micah's betrayal go unaddressed. They made their way to his dorm, Aubrey's determination evident in her stride.

When they arrived, Micah was still in his room, oblivious to the impending confrontation. As Aubrey and Paige knocked on the door, the same girl who had been with Micah earlier answered, her face flushed and guilty.

"Micah, get out here!" Paige demanded, pushing past her. The door swung open wider, revealing Micah in a state of confusion as he scrambled to get dressed.

"Look, we warned you when we first met you. If you hurt Ice, there would be consequences," Aubrey said, her voice filled with anger.

Paige stepped forward, her expression fierce. "You've really done it now. You're going to regret this."

Micah stammered, trying to defend himself. "I didn't mean for this to happen. I'm sorry."

"Sorry isn't going to fix this," Paige snapped. "You need to understand the gravity of what you've done."

After a heated exchange, Micah finally sent a text to Ice, apologizing for his actions. It was too little, too late. Ice, feeling a mixture of relief and vindication, decided to end things with Micah. She drafted a harshly worded letter, expressing her disappointment and severing ties with him for good.

The next morning, the team gathered for breakfast, a somber yet determined mood hanging over them. Ice recounted the events of the previous night, her voice steady despite the emotional toll. Azzi and Kk listened intently, their expressions a mix of concern and support.

Azzi noticed Paige and Aubrey exchanging amused glances. "What's with the smirks?" she asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

Paige and Aubrey exchanged another look before Paige spoke. "Oh, just a little something from last night."

Aubrey nodded in agreement. "Micah got what was coming to him. Ice deserves better."

Azzi's eyes widened in realization as she pieced together the earlier conversation. "So, you two went to confront him?"

"Yep," Paige confirmed with a satisfied grin. "And it was pretty effective."

The group shared a moment of camaraderie, their bond strengthened by the support they had given each other. Ice felt a sense of closure and relief, knowing that her friends had her back and that she had taken control of her own happiness.

As they finished their breakfast, Ice looked around at her friends, grateful for their support. Despite the heartache, she knew she had a strong network of people who cared about her. The experience had been painful, but it had also reaffirmed the importance of having a reliable support system and the strength to stand up for herself.

The day continued with a renewed sense of optimism. The team rallied around Ice, helping her move past the hurt and focusing on the positive aspects of their lives together. And though the memory of Micah's betrayal would linger, it was tempered by the knowledge that she was not alone and that her friends were always there for her.
