If Second Chances Do Exist

Two days after —

"Why is it that you told us to meet here? What do you need to say?" Ryujin asked, her voice hinting she was in a hurry.

Wonyoung and Giselle stood next to each other, silent but their eyes said the same things that came out of Ryujin's mouth.

Karina sighed shakily, standing in front of all of them with her head slightly down. She couldn't keep anything from her friends, they all told each other about all of their secrets and problems. She just couldn't keep it to herself, she needed somebody to hear her out maybe even give her advice.

They stood at a quiet park, in front of a single bench. The air was breezy, every now and then the girls hair would cover their vision.

The moment seemed tense enough even in the calm and just right air, Karina's lips trembling with fear. It had been the same feeling she had once she spoke to Winter for the last time, that had been two days ago, she nearly was already going crazy.

"Can you guys promise you won't get mad at me? Or at least try to hear me out." Karina asked with a shaky tone but loud enough for all of them to hear. They looked at her with a confused expression, why would they get upset with her?

"I promise," Giselle finally spoke up, making Karina feel the tiniest bit better. The other two nodded their heads.

Karina couldn't look any of them in the eyes, it's like she had been scared of eye contact now. Winter's eyes were the only thing that stood out most in her memory. The shine that withdrawn from her pupils, the tiny twitching from Karina's words, disgusted by the older woman.

It should've been understandable, the look was a reasonable reaction, none would be able to look at Karina the same way. But Karina just couldn't understand it. Why did Winter look at her that way? Shouldn't apologies fix everything?

Was it really better to just hide it?

Karina clenched her fists tightly, stopping them from shaking nervously.

She took a deep breath, "that night when we all went clubbing.."

A breathy sigh gapped between her words, "Winter was drunk and I was sober but we ended up.."

Will this change her life forever?

"We ended up having sex but i didn't get any of her consent. She was fully drunk and she didn't know what she was saying. She told me she wanted it but it wasn't really her talking to me," the returning tears ached her vision. "I  felt guilty about it after I did it, she couldn't walk and it's all my fault because I didn't want to hold back.. it's just—" She nearly choked on the growing lump in her throat, nervous tingling in her stomach.

"She seemed so in need and I lost control. I didn't tell her about that night until two days ago and now she won't talk to me. She won't even look my way in school, that's why she switched seats with that one boy who is in love with me." Karina felt like she could cry, not daring to look at her friends expression, she knew it would be a familiar look.

"I want to earn her trust again, I want to be close with her once more. I think—" Karina took a deep breath, finally realizing it, "I think I'm in love with her."

A small gasp filled her ears but pure silence after. Her eyes never lifted up from the ground but oh how she wanted to just have a response instead of the morning air blowing.

"Karina." Ryujin spoke sternly but her tone said that she couldn't find the right words to express how she felt.

"That's absolutely disgusting." Wonyoung interrupted Ryujin before she said anything else.

Giselle glanced at the girl beside her, "Wonyoung—"

"No! She raped her, is it not disgusting?" Wonyoung spoke louder, anger scratching her tone.

"If you were really in love with her you wouldn't have done what you did." Ryujin says lowly, making Wonyoung stop her yelling but it was clear she still was angry.

Karina couldn't find the words to try to defend herself, even agreeing to herself that she had messed up everything.

"Not telling her after a month is just fucked up. You should've told her right away and maybe she would've forgave you. Instead, you waited, leaving her completely clueless. Did you even think of what she wanted? Of what the real Winter wanted you to do? Were you too selfish and just kept that disgusting secret to yourself?"

The softball player's words made everyone go silent, exchanging looking between Karina who never looked away from the ground, tears visibly dropping from her eyes and to Ryujin who gave Karina a cold stare, her eyes pierced right through her.

"I can't forgive you even if it didn't happen to me. I feel bad for Winter and she deserves a proper apology. Karina, once you get your shit together then we can talk but for now I never want to hear anything from you again." Her voice was clear, leaving Karina with a anxious heart.

Ryujin gave the speechless girls a look before leaving, her footsteps turning the opposite direction from the group.

"..."

A sigh released from Wonyoung's lips, seeing her long going friend like this was something she never wanted to see.

"I'm sorry Karina but Ryujin is right. Maybe you should try to take in her words a bit more, she seemed serious."  Wonyoung spoke in a more softer tone than earlier.

Giselle was the only one who didn't show any signs of agreement nor disagreement. But Karina could just feel the disappointment in the silence.

"I have to go," Wonyoung broke the silence, her footsteps disappearing in the grass.

She the same feeling once again, like her world was crumbling down.

Finally, she was able to look up. Her eyes met with her only friend left, Giselle.

She had an unexplainable look, not knowing what to feel for the older girl. She didn't feel pity nor hatred.

"Are you really in love with her, Karina?" Giselle asked once they were alone. Karina looked up at her, not expecting this question to ever be asked to her.

"I've fallen for her." Karina said with a quivering voice. "I'm in love with everything about her. The way her smiles can light up a dark room in seconds. How passionate she is about the things she likes and want to move forward to. Her pure heart that is so fragile, it makes me fall every time. And oh.." she smiled softly at the thought of it, her tears rolling down her cheeks. "How could I forget how beautiful her eyes are? Her pretty brown eyes made a change in my life, they stand out from anything else in this world. Her eyes shines brighter than every star in the sky. I can't lie to you Giselle, I'm in love with her."

"I never stopped thinking about how I should've gave my apologies to her after that night, I just couldn't hold up my courage. I know what I did was wrong, but I never want to see her walk away from me. I never want to lose her. If second chances do exist, I am willing to do whatever it takes to chase her for it. Even if we are only friends, it's more than enough for me."

Sincerity was a hard thing to show,  especially in the word love. But for the first time ever, Giselle saw the sincerity in Karina, knowing she really meant it when she says she never wants Winter to leave her side.

Giselle couldn't believe it.

Karina Yu was actually in love.

"You're an idiot."

Giselle scoffed with a smile before embracing Karina into a hug, patting the back of her head gently.

"Go get your girl, Karina."

"No matter the circumstances you face. If she's really worth it, you'll chase after her. Don't give her up. If you do I'll never forgive you, you fool." She joked, making the crybaby release a weak laugh.

"Thank you, Giselle, I'd be lost without you."  She meant it, she knew Giselle would always hear her out before turning her back on her.

Karina finally had faith in love for the first time, she wasn't going to let it slip away.

She promised herself to do whatever it takes to have Winter by her side once again.
