"Having trouble, Trainee Amin?" Fairman walks over to Alina and I keep doing my push-ups. "You did better yesterday. Numbers should go up, not down."
Alina sighs. "Kevin is distracting me again."
"Time!"
"40." Cassidy stands up.
Justine wipes her face. "43."
"48." Peyton wipes her hands on her jeans.
"62." I get up and everyone looks at me. I wipe my jaw on my shoulder and then cough inside my arm.
"What, are you made of steel?" Cassidy lays down on the ground.
I scoff. "There are procedures for that. Metal plates in the head, metal hip replacement."
"That...That was rhetorical—whatever. I'm too exhausted to walk away."

"Alright, you got 30 seconds. Let's get those guns built." Levino tells us and I put my gun together in. a matter of seconds, then cocking it. "Well done, Trainee Brennan."
"Show off." Peyton jokes.
"Don't get her started and no asking her questions. The answers are longer than our wills to live." Justine cocks her gun.
"You have a fan." Cassidy nudges me.
I turn and lock eyes with Blake who's sitting behind me with his gun put together. "Why do you think that?" I turn back.
"It's because you're best." Alina tells me.
"Duh." Justine sets her gun down.
I shake my head. "I just do the best I can. Drown out all the white noise, just focus on what's in front of me."

"How are you guys not exhausted?" Cassidy walks with us. "It's like we had the Olympics in the morning, and then we have to pass the bar every afternoon."
"Or if you have any energy left." I eye a trainee walking by, staring at her.
She chuckles. "I'm trying to stay focused."
"Missing your Golden Boy." Justine quips and I laugh.
"No, absolutely not. I have actually loved the quiet since Nick got back together with his girlfriend."
Peyton nods. "Right."
"And there's a no hook-up rule between NATs. Need I remind you guys? I mean, technically Alina broke that, but..."
