I pulled out the chair in front, making that annoying scraping noise on the floor causing us both to flinch. As if this couldn't get any awkwarder.

I slump down on the wooden chair, sliding my phone in my pocket.

John was typing away on his computer, probably handing in a 3 month old assignment for University knowing him.

Or fanfiction. Maybe a bit of Jalex bromance. Yeah, I was thinking it too...Mia, stop.

I sat with my head in my hands admiring the features on his face, clearly oblivious as to the fact I was doing so.

"Like what you see?" John teased, nudging my elbow so it fell completely off the table.

"Funny.. I don't even have my glasses with me which was why I was staring for so long"

"Sure, that was totally the reason. What are you even doing here Mia? You hardly come here anymore"

"That is so not true! I come here with Pais but we sit outside. And when I do come on my own, its late at night or early morning anyway" I reply. "Question is, what are you doing here?"

"Finishing assignments last minute, shocker I know. I had nowhere else to go that was peaceful and I remembered you telling me about this place. Just thought I'd check it out, it's actually dead cool"

"Thanks I guess  but you can't sit here if you come again dude" I point my finger to the table, pressing it down hard to get my point across. "This is my corner, okay?"

"Do I not provide great company though?" he giggled.

But it was weird that he was exactly right. John was great company and ever since I've known him, he's never failed to make me laugh.

"By your silence, I guess I was true" he joked again and before I could send back a sarcastic remark, a blonde waitress walked over. I'd never seen her before so I was only presuming she was new.

"Um, hiya. I'm kelly. Sorry it took so long and I feel so bad but like, I couldn't find where you were sat and then I um, well I spilled the drink on the floor so I had to go back and make a new one" she gasps, almost as if to catch her breath. "Then...like, I didn't want to come over because I thought you would um, I don't know. Like, sue me or something. I'm new by the way. This is all new to me so I am sorry. Um, I'm also sorry if I'm not making sense, or like rambling on or something"

I was surprised she had any breath left after the rate she was talking. Before I could accept her apology and introduce myself, John cut in.

"Well, we should sue but we won't. Just fuck off"

Both mine and the  waitress' faces dropped. I turned to apologize for John's behaviour but she had scurried off, probably just as scared as I was by John's sudden mood change.

"That was rude. Very rude actually. You didn't need to send her away like that, you know?" I stated, furrowing my brows.

"Well would you have preferred her to stay and talk all fucking night or leave so you can ask whatever the fuck you want to ask me?"

Was I that transparent? Crap.

"Well I um, how did you know I wanted to ask you a question?"

"Because, I admit it was a shock to see you in here at such a time but it was a bigger shock when you engaged in conversation. With another human. I mean, it's you we're talking about here, that shy girl who hates everyone on the planet-"

"Okay okay, I get it. So um"

"Just ask, for fucks sake" he laughed, knowing I was finding it difficult.
