It's the day of the funeral, they soon have to leave so Steve goes to check on Evie who's still getting ready. She's not in the guest room so he takes a peek into Eddie's room and sure enough she's there on the bed surrounded by photos, some of are Eddie and Chris and some are of just Evie and Eddie and others are of all three of them. She's sobbing in the middle of it all.

Steve quickly rushes to her. He knows that despite all the hurt that man had caused his fiancé she loved him, no not the way she loves Steve but as a best friend and for a time they were more, Steve knows that but he knows that she'll always love Steve on a deeper level, so he's not jealous, no he's sad for the love of his life to be going through this. He wishes he could take her pain away, even a bit but unfortunately he can't so he wraps his arms around her and says soothing nothings into her ear.

"I'm sorry, Steve, you probably think I'm horrible for being this upset." Evie sobs.

Steve sighs he knew Evie felt guilty but she has no reason to.

"Not at all Angel, I know he meant a lot to you, I also know that this is a lot so close to almost losing me and with your hormones, it makes everything ten times worse. I know you love me. But I also know you loved him too." Steve says and when Evie goes to protest he kisses her tenderly and says "I know, Angel not the same way you love me but you still loved him, and that's perfectly okay." Steve reassured her.

"Thank you Steve for being so good about this all. I love you so much." Evie says hugging him tighter,
like he'd disappear if she let go.

He holds onto her tightly and kisses her hair.

"I love you, Angel so much." Steve says.

"We should get ready." Steve says and Evie whines

"I don't want to, I don't want to face the truth." Evie says clutching tighter on Steve's shirt.

"I know Angel, but you have to. You have to say goodbye, if not you'll regret it." Steve says, rubbing soothing circles into her back.

Evie groans as she says "I know you're right." And with that she goes to get up with a hand from Steve.

Evie waddles down the hall as she says "I'm gonna check on Chris first." Steve nods as she knocks on Chris' door.

"Come in." Chris says in a broken, sad voice.

Evie opens the door and her heart breaks as she sees Chris looking at a picture of him and his dad.

"Hey superman." Evie says tenderly, as she sits on the bed beside him.

"I miss him." Chris says between tears.

"I know sweetheart, I do too, but he'd want us to live and not wallow in our grief. Your dad loved you so much." Evie says with tears in her eyes.

"What if now that you're a cop what if you die too? I'd have no one." Chris says broken.

"Oh superman, I'm not going anywhere I promise. I will always fight for you." Evie says hugging the boy closely.

"Okay." Chris says returning the hug.

"Let's get ready, okay? Once the funeral is over, then we have to get your stuff ready as we are leaving early in the morning." Evie tells the boy.

"Okay." Chris says and with that he starts to get ready and Evie goes to get ready herself.

Once the three of them are ready. They head out to the church.

It's the church Abuela and Tia Peppa go to, Eddie went with them a couple times and so did Chris.

They arrive and the church is packed with not only firefighters and fellow soldiers but cops and civilians that Eddie has saved over the years.
Hondo and Sam come up to them when they spot Steve and Evie, and Hondo wraps Evie in his arms.
