Clashing waves: a love story

The shooting

It's just a typical Tuesday morning since Evie found out she was pregnant. She gets up and rushes into the bathroom with Steve hot on her heels, holding her hair back and saying calming and soothing reassurances as she heaves into the toilet.

Once done and teeth brushed she goes to shower this particular morning they are running late so Evie showers then Steve. Evie grabs her ginger tea and Steve's black coffee with butter while Steve's still getting dressed.

He comes down and gets the coffee and places a tender kiss on Evies lips.

"I love you." He says simply.

"I love you too." She says smiling.
"How are you and the little beans?" Steve asks.

"We are good." Evie says chuckling at the nickname.

Steve smiles softly as he places his hand on evies stomach. Her belly is massive already as she's six months pregnant now with twins so it's to be expected.

"Good I'm glad." Steve says .

They head to Steve's truck and they drive in comfortable silence.

"How did you sleep?" Steve asks.

"Good. What about you?" Evie asks smiling over at him.

"Good just had to fight you for the covers all night long." Steve replies with a smirk.

Evie playfully hits Steve in the shoulder and says "liar! I do not hog the covers." Evie crosses her arms over her chest and pouts.

Steve laughs as he pulls up to the palace.

"Of course you don't angel." Steve says and puts the truck in park and kisses the pout off of her lips.

They get out and go up to their offices.

They just get in when Evies phone rings. She sees Athena is calling and something in her gut tells her to answer so she does.

"Hey Athena! I'm at work right now, can I call you later?" Evie asks

She hears Athena trying to calm herself as a sob escapes her lips.

"Athena? What happened?" Evie asks worried etched all over her face, making Steve go to her side.

"Oh Evie, have you watched the news?" Athena asks.

"No I haven't." Evie replies then looks at Chin as the whole team is watching her and Steve's right by her side.

"Turn on the LA news." Evie orders and Chin does as told.

"Firefighters being targeted by a sniper in downtown LA. We have reports that there've been three shootings but only one fatally so far. A firefighter with the 118. No name has been disclosed yet."

Taylor Kelly reports.

Evie sucks in a breath as she hears that someone from the 118 has died.

"Who?" All Evie can say with a shaky voice, as she tries to prepare herself for the worst.

"It's Eddie, Evie." Athena says

"NO!" Evie yells as she crumbles to the floor.

They were just becoming friends again.
Chris needed his dad. Eddie needed to know she forgave him.

"Chris?" Is all she can manage between laboured breathing as Steve and Grover pick her up off the floor.

"He's with Carla, he doesn't know anything yet." Athena says hiccuping.

"Have they caught the bastard?" Evie asks starting to breath normally.

"No." Athena states

"Damn it." Evie says fuming with anger at the bastard that took her best friend.
