"Pil-sook ssi...thank you for meeting me," Dal-po said stiffly, his cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink.
Standing outside a movie theatre, the two introverts shuffled their feet awkwardly, their hearts pounding in their chests. It was a scene straight out of a romantic comedy, except for the fact that neither of them knew how to act like the main characters who always seemed to know what to say.
Before this day, Dal-po had mustered up the courage to invite Pil-sook to watch a movie after he had discovered their shared love for Disney. Of course, he was also hoping to use this chance to confess his feelings.
Tucked behind him was a huge stuffed bear that he had picked out for Pil-sook. He had chuckled when he saw it in the window display and thought she would enjoy cuddling it to sleep at night.
"Aniyo, I've been meaning to watch this, sunbaenim," Pil-sook replied, her voice soft and shy. She was clearly as nervous as he was.
Finally summoning the courage, Dal-po held out the stuffed bear. "Here," he said, his voice barely audible. "I got this for you."
Almost comically, Pil-sook's eyes widened in surprise and delight as she took the bear from his hands. The soft, cuddly toy was almost as tall as she was, its big, brown eyes staring up at her with an innocent charm.
"Omo! He's adorable!" Pil-sook squealed, her shyness momentarily forgotten as she hugged the bear tightly. She swung it around, the bear's arms seemingly embracing her in return.
Dal-po couldn't help but chuckle at her childlike enthusiasm.
Glancing up with wide brown eyes, Pil-sook's eyes shone as she addressed Dal-po. "How did you know I like yellow?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder.
"Ah," Dal-po scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Lucky guess," he replied, trying to play it cool.
That was a lie. In reality, he had consulted Hae-in and some of Pil-sook's friends in the music club for advice.
"Gomawoyo! He's lovely," Pil-sook said, her voice filled with gratitude. "He'll be the perfect cuddle buddy for our movie."
Dal-po smiled, his heart feeling lighter now that he knew she liked the gift.
"Pil-sook ssi, before we head in," he began, his voice steady. "I have something to ask you."
Pil-sook's eyes widened with anticipation. "What is it, sunbaenim?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Dal-po took a deep breath. This was it...
"Do you remember back when we were playing Spin the Bottle and Yang-gi asked me to pick a girl?" he began, his voice filled with a mix of nervousness and determination.
"Mmm," Pil-sook nodded solemnly, her eyes fixed on his face, waiting for him to continue.
"...and I picked you?" Dal-po finished, his heart pounding wildly in his chest.
