"I'm almost there! 🥳🙌 Maybe around five minutes? You?" Hyun Woo texted, sending the message out.
Moments later, his phone buzzed with a reply from Hae-in.
"I see. I'm reaching soon."
"See you in a bit!"
Tucking his phone into his pocket, Hyun Woo's face lit up with a wide grin. He quickened his steps, weaving through the busy Seoul streets as his heart thumped steadily with anticipation at the thought of seeing his girlfriend again.
It was their fourth day of school break, three days since they'd last seen each other. Missing each other aside, Baek Hyun Woo and Hong Hae-in certainly looked forward to spending the day together in the city.
For Hyun Woo though, this day carried an extra significance.
It was Hae-in's birthday. And Hyun Woo had meticulously planned their day out, eager to make her day unforgettable.
As he approached the convenience store, he spotted her instantly. She stood with one hand on her leather purse, her retro pink jacket snug around her shoulders as she scanned the crowd with her doe-like eyes.
Even amidst the sea of people, Hae-in's presence drew him like a magnet.
Being a head taller than most with an equally exuberant personality packed into a 180 cm frame, it didn't take Hae-in long to spot her boyfriend in the crowd. He looked as boyish as always in a baby blue pullover and beige trousers.
She waved.
He waved too before jogging over to her with a warm smile.
"Happy birthday," he greeted warmly, pulling her into a gentle hug.
Hae-in smiled, her arms wrapping around him as if it were second nature. "Gomawo."
"Ready for the best birthday ever?" Hyun Woo asked, stepping back slightly to look at her.
"Mmm," she nodded, her smile soft yet radiant.
With a chuckle, Hyun Woo took her hand, their fingers intertwining effortlessly. Together, they set off toward Hongdae's shopping street, ready to discover the kaleidoscope of vibrant shops and street food stalls.
Their first stop was a shop brimming with quirky accessories and playful knickknacks. Hyun Woo held up a pair of pastel-colored headbands adorned with floppy bunny ears.
"Do you think we'd look cute in these?" he teased, holding one against Hae-in's head.
"Cute? Absolutely. Stylish? Debatable," Hae-in crossed her arms, almost snorting when Hyun Woo decided to put it on. Without a mirror to guide him, it sat crooked, the floppy ears bouncing as he tilted his head.
"Hae-in-ah, come on, try one," Hyun Woo urged, shaking his head to make the ears wiggle, his expression playfully childlike.
"Hard pass," Hae-in declared, holding up a hand to stop him. Despite that, she couldn't quite resist Hyun Woo's puppy dog eyes and ended up putting it on.
