"WHERE IS Y/N?"

"W-we do not know, Your Highness..."

"S-she left t-this morning and hasn't returned..."

"WELL, GO FIND HER! NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO SLEEP UNTIL SHE RETURNS!"

"Iraceli, I'm sure she's –"

"WHAT? YOU THINK SHE'S SAFE? IF SHE CAN'T TELL ME THAT HERSELF THEN I DOUBT SHE IS! WHAT ARE YOU STANDING AROUND FOR?! FIND HER, OR IT'S OFF WITH YOUR HEADS!"

Y/N had no idea that her betrothed was currently rampaging through the castle, threatening anyone who breathed wrong and ordering every abled body servant to search for her. Had she had a moment to think, she might have worried about her fiancée, but her only thoughts so far had been how to break the chains currently binding her to the base of a large tree and figure out what the army of Headless Horsemen was after.

After spooking her horse and capturing her in the woods, the Headless Horsemen had whisked her away to what appeared to be their camp. A large section of the forest had been felled and a roaring fire lit in the centre of the clearing, flickering when a Horseman threw another log onto it to keep it burning bright. The Horseman who had been holding her prisoner had chained her to a large tree with shackles seemingly made of nothing but shadows and was now hunched over by the flames, doing nothing but sitting in the glow of the fire with the rest of his company. Y/N had nearly managed to escape once with a spell, but the Horsemen had caught her and had now gagged her as well. Unfortunately, the gag had been a bit of torn fabric from one of their garments and it tasted like decay and soil. Y/N was eager to get it out of her mouth.

"LET ME GO," Y/N shouted from behind the gag, kicking her feet to get the Horsemen's attention. They didn't even seem to hear her. The only ones who glanced in her general direction were sitting opposite the fire and had no choice but to stare at her through the glowing eyes of their jack-o'-lanterns. Y/N was hardly able to keep eye contact for a second before her eyes started to burn and tear up at the sight.

It felt like hours before one of the Horsemen rose from his seat by the fire and stomped over to her, his armour making loud clanking sounds with each step. Y/N stilled as he approached, leaning back into the tree and watching him with a careful eye. He crouched in front of her and took her chin in his hand, forcing her to meet the gaze of his jack-o'-lantern. Y/N's eyes started to water in seconds, but she refused to look away.

A sudden gust of wind turned her bones to ice and Y/N shuddered against the cold, shaking so badly that she slipped from the Horseman's hold. The wind settled as soon as it had come and Y/N breathed a sigh of relief, curling her legs closer to her in an attempt to conserve body heat.

Another rush of wind made her teeth start to chatter, but as she listened to the howling wind, she noticed something strange about it this time. A sort of voice that seemed to be brought with the wind, a mere whisper in her ears. As the chill settled, Y/N frowned, glancing up at the Horseman before her. Had he tried to speak to her?

A third gust of wind confirmed her suspicions.

Yes. I am trying to communicate with you.

"Oh," Y/N mumbled through the gag, slumping back against the tree. She tried to motion with her eyes to the gag pressed into the corners of her lips.
