Scorpions were fascinating creatures and intrigued Y/N more so perhaps than any creatures she had encountered in the mortal world. It was because of the scorpions living on the bottom of the cave where she had sought refuge for the past few months that she had started adapting a nocturnal schedule. And in a desert as hot as the one surrounding Agrabah, it had been a wise choice. Leaving the cave when the sun was high threatened to blister Y/N's skin, and despite her mortal disguise, the sun was so powerful that she often felt weak after spending any prologued time in the sun. But after observing the scorpions, she had learned to leave the cave at night, when the rest of the desert animals flocked to the dunes in search of food, relishing in the cooler temperatures with the moon to light her way.
The scorpions had also come to be companions to Y/N in a way. At first, they had been intimidated by the large stranger in their midst, snapping their claws at her and threatening to sting her if she got too close. Still, after a few weeks that soon turned into months, the scorpions had become used to her and comfortable enough around her that Y/N could now walk through the cave without the fear of getting stung. Some even climbed on her while she sat outside her cave or traversed the desert, happy for the ride and the coolness that seemed to bleed from her body and into her surroundings. She was a welcome relief from the blistering heat of the desert sun.
And Y/N was particularly indebted to the scorpions who lived in a small cave a night's walk away from the cave where she resided, for they had found the vessel. The one thing Y/N feared in this world. A magical artefact created by enemies of the Luna who had threatened to overthrow the royal family and seize the throne for themselves. The vessel had been crafted with sunlight and shadows to strip away the powers used by the royal family, allowing the holder to absorb the Luna's power for themself. When the usurpers had been discovered, the vessel had been thrown into the portal in hopes that it would never be used. But like all Lunar artefacts, the vessel called Y/N to it, warning her of its presence in the world. Y/N doubted that any would be able to find it or use it to draw her powers out of her and into themself, but she wasn't about to take that chance.
She had discovered the vessel after five months in the desert and had bound it in cloth before bringing it back to her cave in hopes of finding some way to destroy it. Her first thought had been to burn it, or to smash it with a rock, but the vessel had been imbued with magical strength that prevented it from being so easily destroyed. Y/N had spent a month interpreting and translating the crudely carved runes and markings on the rim of the vessel, trying to see if there was a way to destroy it. But after searching the entire body of the lamp-shaped vessel, she had come away empty-handed. She had no clue how to destroy it.
As the days bled into weeks and months, Y/N considered the option of throwing the vessel into the sea. She was certain that no one would find the vessel that far beneath the waves, but getting so far out into the water required some preparations. She was stranded in the desert with Agrabah being the closest settlement in any direction, and even then, she would have to sail out into the middle of the ocean before she was sure that the vessel would never be found.
Finally, after eight months of sitting in the cave, feasting on rabbits with her scorpion friends clicking away at her feet, Y/N decided that throwing the vessel into the ocean might just be the best decision. She would never be able to destroy the vessel – not without the strength of a Luna blacksmith to break it down into minute fragments – and the thought of someone abusing her powers gave her frequent nightmares. Yes, throwing it into the ocean was the best place for it.
