My baby and I walked hand in hand through the Mujulizi Art Gallery's sliding front doors. we took a moment to appreciate the artwork around us as we waited for Aisha to come and meet us for the exhibit she'd asked us to be a part of. We were on a highly anticipated two week break between the Nairobi show and the upcoming one in Kitalo City. We'd unsurprisingly spent the first few days of this much needed break resting indoors.
If Towani had any objections against the bonnet and unflattering t-shirt combo I'd been rocking since we got to his penthouse a few nights earlier, he hadn't said a word as we lazed around together, catching up with our cats and sleeping the first half of the tour away.
Now, we were both much more presentable as we tailed behind our security detail, my cream-coloured romper perfectly matching his cream linen shirt and pants combo. We also had on his and hers Noire Afrique tribal print sandals and had both accessorised in golden jewellery.
Aisha was beaming as she walked to us, her eyes sparkling as she gave me a warm, soothing hug. "Hi, you two! Dang, I'm the one who asked you guys to get all dressed up, but I'm somehow shocked by the extent to which y'all said bet."
"Blame it on the fact that the last time we got dressed up was for the performance in Nairobi." Towani laughed, adjusting his hold on my hand so there was no longer any space between our palms.
Aisha's face grew concerned as she said, "Speaking if Nairobi, you did such an amazing job holding it together onstage. I can imagine it wasn't easy having people say all that horrible stuff about you online."
"It definitely wasn't, but I'm glad I'm finally past it." Towa provided with confidence coating each word. "The hardest thing now is getting used to people recognising me without the mask. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd have to go everywhere with security."
"You get used to it." Aisha's hot basketball player of a husband said suddenly, impressively sneaking up behind her with their twin boys in both his arms and somehow managing to kiss her on the cheek.
"Chi, when will you stop listening in on my conversations?" Aisha asked through a blush as she took one of the identical boys from him. "I'm working, you know?"
"I just came to say hi to my cousin-in-law's sister-in-law and her man, baby girl." Chimwemwe said, kissing her cheek again.
"Emphasis on her man." Aisha smirked at her husband as both babies stared dreamily at her. To us she said, "Chi's starstruck. He's been obsessing over you since you gave the cyber bullies a piece of your mind, and he's got the Journey album on repeat on Spotify."
"And you know what? I'm not sorry." Chimwemwe laughed as the baby reached for his beard.
"Well, just so you know, Towa's YouTube shorts are full of replays of your best basketball moments, so it's a fair trade off." I laughingly revealed as both guys chuckled wryly.
