Six months later...
"This is different, I've never serviced a more extra bride," Rorisang Ntlatleng, a talented nail tech, said to me as she safely removed the gel manicure set she'd done for my wedding nails.
"Hey, blame my husband," I said to the gorgeous woman seated in the luxurious bedroom of my bridal suite with me, completely stunned by the beauty she exuded from the top of her curly hair to her glossy french toenails in the mink slippers I'd included in all the guest rooms for this special day. "He saw me struggling to pick between two nail sets and said 'why can't you have both?'"
"Sounds like someone I know," Rorisang smirked as she pulled out alcohol swabs to prep my nails for the reception set.
Her words prompted me to look at the stunning ring on her finger, my own ring glimmering as she applied layers of gel to adhere the new gel tips to. I smiled to myself. I was officially part of the wifey club.
"May we come in?" Ma said in the open doorway of the cavernous room, her voice accompanied by the sweet sounds of Temwani and Hazina talking to each other in baby language.
"Yes, please," I sang, my grin growing as my baby girl bounced on my mom's hip when her eyes landed on me.
My little angel. Six months of being her mom had brought so much joy to my life as I got to know my baby, learning what made her laugh in her loud little cackles, and what put a frown on her adorable golden brown face. From rolling over to sitting down by herself and most recently, crawling all over the place, her milestones were always met with enthusiasm from me and Towa as we took pictures and continued to document her journey in her photo album. There was nothing that mattered more to me than the health, safety, and happiness of my little girl, and I knew that would remain true for as long as I lived.
"Hi, my angel! Hi, Temmy-Tems!" I cooed, kissing her little hand when Ma brought the babies close. I tickled both girls with my free hand, their giggles infectious as I said, "And hi, my little treasure! Hi, Zeezee! Are you two good?"
The girls bounced happily, their presence bringing the room to life as Ma put them down on the play mat I'd set up in a corner of the room. Toys cluttered as my daughter and niece crawled and played around, the two of them keeping each other company as Ma joined in on conversations about marriage and love with me and Rorisang.
