Anya sat on the couch, reading a book with a sleeping Bond beside her.

She kept her hand on his neck as her eyes scanned over the page, running her fingers through his thick fur.

The day had been going rather peacefully with only one mission assigned to her in the morning.

Eden had cancelled classes for the day as the yearly inspection will be going on up until evening.

Her parents had their day jobs to go to but she was perfectly fine left all alone.

A little quiet after the chaos the week brought in wouldn't hurt anybody.

But of course that quiet had to be broken.

By a ringing doorbell.

Anya jumped as the sound echoed throughout the silent house.

Bond was startled awake from his slumber but he shared a look of suspicion with his owner regardless.

Hesitantly, Anya stood up and slowly walked over to the door, careful not to make any sound that would indicate her presence if the person standing outside was an enemy.

She held her breath subconsciously when she reached for the doorknob, leaning towards the peephole but cringing when the floor creaked beneath her.

She hoped that wouldn't be audible from outside.

Taking a look through the small, circular glass, she sighed in relief upon recognizing the two figures waiting impatiently, if the tapping of the foot and pacing around was any sign.

With a small smile, Anya twisted the doorknob and pulled the door open, forgetting she was only in the tank top and cargo pants she used during her mission earlier on in the day.

"Ugh, finally! What took you so long! I almost thought no one was home." Becky whined immediately, not giving Anya the chance to say something.

"Why are you guys here?" The telepath asks, ignoring her friend's complaints.

"Can't we visit a friend, shrimp?" Damian says casually with a smirk.

Anya's cheeks flush red at the insult.

"Oi, I'm not a shrimp! I've grown, just so you know." She huffed, brows furrowing and eyes narrowed in annoyance.

It's been so long since Damian called her that but it still irritated her in ways she couldn't explain.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, shrimp. Now are you gonna let us in or not?"

"You-!"

She was more than ready to punch him but decided to keep her composure, not wanting to make a commotion outside where her neighbors could see.

Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and straightened up, opening them a moment later when she felt her frustration ease up.

One of the most important things she learned during her training was how to control her emotions.

She went through tough hours with Nightfall trying to perfect a calm facade.

And damn did it save her life.

"Come in. You can leave your shoes by the door." She turned around and walked back inside, leaving her friends to follow her.

She went to the kitchen and grabbed two glasses from the dish rack, filling it up with a pitcher of cold water that she took from the fridge.

They had gone to sit on the couch and when Anya looked up at them, her brows shot up in surprise as Bond had disappeared.

She held the glasses in her two hands, careful not to drop them and walked the short distance to the living room.
