Chapter 15: The Beginning of the End

"Parang gusto ko ng pancit," Azra said, making Maeve laugh.

Maeve's POV

Day 21

It was 4:00 in the morning, and I was writing goodbye letters to my friends, Miley, my aunt in the US, and, of course, to Azra. I made sure not to make it sound like a suic*de note. Instead, it was a heartfelt thank-you letter, filled with my love for them. I also dropped a hint that I had a sense my end was approaching.

Letter for Gwyn, Colai, and Jo:

Para sa mga kapwa ko Papi,

Hoy, mga gwapings na tulad ko! I decided to write this letter to the three of you, just in case, you know, something happens to me in the future. Alam ko naman na pakikialaman niyo gamit ko kaya alam kong mahahanap niyo 'to.

I just want to thank all of you, gals, for being in my life. I couldn't imagine my days without you. You became my family, and I will forever treasure our memories. You taught me so much: kalokohan, kapilyahan, uminom, maging mabuting tao, at higit sa lahat, magmahal. I love you, Nicolai, Johansen, and Gwyneth! I'll see you again soon. Ingatan niyo ang isa't isa, ah.

I also want you to know that I have no regrets in life. Don't be sad because I'll finally see my parents. But don't think I'm just resting—I'll be keeping an eye on you from up there. Excited na 'kong makita kayong magka-pamilya.

Wag kayong mag-aaway pag wala na 'ko, ah? Alam ko na si Cols na naman ang unang mang-aasar, si Jo ang unang maiiyak, at si Gwyn... well, she'll probably just roll her eyes at both of you. Pero seryoso, magkasama dapat kayong tatlo palagi, okay?

If you ever need a sign, just look up. I'll be the brightest star in the sky, the one making sure you don't trip on your way to happiness. At kung sakali mang magkalat kayo, don't worry, I'll be up there laughing my ass off.

Mahal ko kayo, mga accla. Hanggang sa muli!

Letter for Miley and Tita:

Dear Tita and Miley,

I just want to start by saying thank you for everything you've done for me. Since my parents passed, you both have been my rock, my family, and my guiding light. Tita, you've been like a second mother to me, always there with advice, love, and support, even when I was at my most stubborn. Miley, you've been more than a cousin—you're my best friend, my sister.

Just in case something happens to me in the future, I want you to know how much I love you both. Tita, you've always made sure I felt loved and cared for, kahit na ang kulit ko minsan. I hope I made you proud in my own little way.

Miley, keep being the amazing person you are. You have so much ahead of you, and I know you'll do great things. I'll be watching over you both, cheering you on from up there.

Thank you for being my family. I love you more than words can say.
