Horror of Sapposhima

Empire of Riem, Sapposhima, September 20th 1641

Italian Soldiers looked at the Piles of dead Riemish Soldiers, Many of them looked young, too young to be soldiers. Since they landed 9 days ago, the Italian Marines, 76 000 in Total, were having the worst time to be alive.

The Island was defended by the most Fanatical Soldiers they would ever face, In addition to the entire island being made into soldiers. A total of 250 000 To fight them.

The Italian Navy had soften the shores with bombing runs, But it did nothing.

The Riemish defenders of Sapposhima Island knew that they were not going
to survive, they could not win. They Navy had been reduced by now to only 88 Ships, Their planes were less than 4000 and only 1.5 Million soldiers could fight.

Many Islands which had been cut off began to lay down their arms after Italy faked news of the war being over. Over 270 000 POWs were taken, when the POWs heard of the deception, they tried to rebel, but were quickly stopped.

But the defenders of the Island hoped that, by causing enough casualties, far greater than anything they had done before, By creating enough horror, that it might either make the Italians
decide not to invade Riem's homeland or at least maybe get the Riemish a better peace offer of some kind.

Then the Marines landed, eerily unopposed.

Not a soul came out to attack them or them when they made their base, This rightfully made them on edge. But unseen by Italian troops were 97,000 Riemish defenders, ready to strike with unprecedented savagery.

On day 3 of the Landings, they attacked, with over 7 000 Suicide Soldiers, who were using just their body as a weapon, Riemish soldiers with 22 pound satchel bombs run under tanks.

Meanwhile, 15 000 defenders banzai charge the Italian marines armed only with bamboo spears and sidearms. 

Something the Marines were already use to, but they had never seen such a depth of commitment that the Riemish would actually suffer mass, essentially suicidal death rather than surrender their position.

It made for a very scary enemy to be facing for the italians regardless of how many times they had faced the same situation. 

Since that day, the Marines had been fighting the most ruthless degree of battle at very close quarters. Very little of the Island was liberated by now, On the seas, Riemish was sending wave after wave of Kamikazes from both the Island and the Mainland to the Italian fleet.

Here they had a much higher hit hate, with 10% of attacks hitting a ship. The Italian Navy had to borrow the B-1s to bomb to hell the Riemish Air Bases.

One of the Key problems with the Empire of Riem which made Italy have a hard time was that it was a resource rich Land, with metals, oil and coal. It meant that no matter what damages Italy did to their military, they always had what was needed to replace all losses.

Worst yet, they did not need to fear having shortages of Fuel, Meaning they could continue their attacks without fear.

On the Island, a near daily fighting took place, where even the cooks, medics and more of the Italian Marines were given rifles and sent into the battle. By The start of October, the progress had been so slow that it was no matter how much land they took but how much they kept.

But the death was out of this world, 133 000 Riemish Soldiers and Civilians were dead, bodies so high in the areas of fighting that they were being used as natural barriers for the Italians to defend themselves with.
