After 3 weeks of recovery, May was up and running again.
"Let's go pack up your stuff and then I have to catch the plane. We will see each other in Minnesota in, what, two days? How exciting." David says, walking to May's car.
"I'm just excited to get on with life." May laughs.
"Me too." David sighs. "I didn't really know what I wanted to do when I got out of college and away from you and my friends. I just wanted to pause my life and wait for you. So, that what I did. I'm glad I did." David says.
"Yeah." May sighs too. When they arrive at the school, David waits outside while may packs up her stuff.
"Dave! What's up man?" Trey sits by him.
"What's up? Good to hear your voice." David puts up his fist and Trey bumps it with his.
"You too man. It's good to see May back up and running."
"Yeah. Did you help her with that when I wasn't here?"
"I sure did. It was a pleasure."
"Man, that's cool." May walks out the door and looks around until she sees David and Trey.
"Hey Trey! How's it?" May is happy.
"I'm good. It's good to see you!" Trey shakes her hand.
"You too." May says. "Hey David aren't you going to be late? We should really go. Nice seeing you!" May rests her hand on his shoulder.
"Nice to hear you again!" David says as he is walking away.
"You too!" Trey says, waving his hand goodbye.
"I'm so glad I can walk." May squeezes David's hand.
"I'm glad too."
They get to the airport and have to say goodbye again.
"We will see each other soon. Call me when you get there." May has to tip toe to hug David.
"Ok. I will. I love you." May stands against the wall as they kiss. She holds the back of his neck and his hand is on her cheek.
"I love you too." May whispers and then pats David's back. She has to board.
"I'll call you!" He waves in the direction that he thinks is right. She turns around right as they close the doors. She was the last person to board. Now it's David's turn.
"Hey May! It's David. Just calling to let you know... I'm home! Yaaay! Right? Um. Actually it's not very yay. I found out that...my gosh... My father has... Passed." David breaks down on the phone recording he is leaving May that very same night. "He... Had a heart attach. It came out of no where. Death is like that. I hate it. But.. Something good did come from this... He put me in his will saying, and I quote, 'I leave everything to my son, David Carlson.' That's it. That's all it said. I get his house, his money, his car. Everything. But he's gone. Nothing can replace that." David pauses. "Anyway. I'm excited for you to come and join me. I love you. Goodbye." He hangs up his special phone and goes to bed. He is very tired. May probably didn't pick up because she's not off the plane yet. She used to live in Maine.
It was 2 in the morning when she replied with a phone call.
"David. I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what it feels like. I love you so much and I will talk to you tomorrow.. Or later today I guess. Goodbye." The moment David wakes up he listens to it and picks up the phone and calls back.
"May?" David hasn't even started to wake up.
"Hi David. How are you? Are you okay? Actually that was a stupid question. I know you aren't okay. I wouldn't be." It's like she just woke up too.
"Yeah. It sucks. He loved me so much. He bought my apartment! Gah... I have to attend his funeral on November 23rd or something like that. This is hard!" He breaks down again.
"I wish I could be there to hug you. I'm excited for to- TOMORROW? Tomorrow already?!?!? I'm moving in with you... Tomorrow?!?!? Oh my lord!" May freaks out.
"I'm excited too! Woo!" David sucks up his tears and celebrates one of the biggest changes in his life. He laughs.
"Oh! I have a present for you! A big one." May says.
"You are enough of a present for me."
"Oh no.. This present is for both of us. I'm really excited for it too."
"Well I'll have to wait and see." David says.
"I gotta go... Eat breakfast and take a shower and stuff. I'll see you tomorrow!" May says.
"Ok. Me too. I literally haven't even gotten clothes on or brushed my teeth." David scratches the back of his neck.
"Same with me. Okay. Bye. Love you." May says.
"Bye. Love you too." After the phone is hung up David gets his exercise clothes on and brushes his teeth and eats breakfast. Today, he works out.
After that happens, he is all sweaty and gross so he goes to take a shower. Tomorrow she is coming. I have to do it then. David thinks as he scrubs his head.
