♥ You're Being Weird ♥
The night air was cool, with a slight breeze rustling through the trees surrounding the porch. The stars twinkled faintly above, casting a gentle glow on the quiet street. Coby stood outside with Stefan, the tension between them as thick as the night air. She wrapped her arms around herself, more out of nerves than the chill in the air. Her eyes flickered with frustration and confusion as she turned to Stefan, her voice sharper than she intended.
"Why did you accept her terms, Stefan? You didn't even hesitate. You just agreed without thinking about what I want," Coby scolded, her eyes searching his face for some kind of explanation. "I don't need you to make decisions for me. I can handle this on my own."
Stefan remained calm, his gaze steady as he listened to her. There was no anger in his eyes, only a quiet resolve. When she finished, he asked a question that caught her off guard, his voice soft but firm.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
The question hung in the air between them, and Coby hesitated, feeling her heart race. She hadn't expected him to ask that. She looked away, unsure of how to answer. The truth was tangled up in her thoughts, too complex to unravel easily.
"I… I don't know," Coby finally admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. She bit her lip, trying to find the right words. "I guess… I thought you might think I was trying to pin the pregnancy on you. I didn't want you to feel trapped or obligated."
There was a long pause, and she could feel Stefan's eyes on her, studying her face, as if trying to understand her hesitation. Before he could say anything, Coby suddenly changed the subject, her tone more defiant now.
"But I'm not going with you, Stefan. You can't just decide that for me. Not you, not my Mom!"
Stefan didn't respond immediately. Instead, he just stared at her, his eyes filled with a longing she hadn't noticed before. He had missed this—missed her. He had missed the way she bickered with him, the way she challenged him at every turn. He had missed the little things: the way she nervously tucked her hair behind her ear when she was unsure, the way she got defensive whenever she messed up, and even the way she looked right now, determined and stubborn.
Coby noticed the way he was looking at her, and it made her uneasy. She frowned, trying to figure out what was going on in his mind. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Stefan's expression softened, but his voice remained steady as he asked, "Why won't you go with me, Coby? Would you rather go with Tenzin instead?"
Her confusion deepened, and she shook her head slightly, trying to make sense of his words. "What are you talking about? I'm not going with either of you. This is my decision, Stefan. I need to do this on my own."
Stefan's jaw tightened slightly, and he took a small step closer to her, fighting the urge to pull her into his arms. He wasn't sure if it was anger, frustration, or something else entirely, but he needed her to understand.
"Do you hate me that much?" he asked, his voice quiet but filled with a depth of emotion she hadn't expected.
Coby's eyes widened in surprise, and she took a step back, shaking her head. "Why are you acting so weird, Stefan? What's going on with you?"
"Nothing," Stefan replied, his tone serious as he met her gaze head-on. "But you're going with me, Coby. You mustn't refuse because the baby belongs to me too."
Coby scoffed, momentarily speechless. She had expected resistance, but not this level of determination. She opened her mouth to argue, but the words didn’t come out. She was caught off guard by the intensity of his gaze, the way he seemed so sure, so resolute.
