♥ Unexpected Surprise ♥
As the days wore on, the warmth between Stefan and Coby only deepened. Their moments together were filled with laughter, small arguments over baby names, and the quiet comfort of each other's presence. It was during one of these typical evenings that they found themselves at Rosita's house, gathered around the dinner table for a family meal. The aroma of home-cooked food filled the air, and the evening seemed to be progressing smoothly.
Charlotte, always one for directness, turned to Coby with a warm smile. "You know, Cobes, you look great. Not even a bit of fat on you, considering you're pregnant."
Coby chuckled, rubbing her small bump. "Thanks, Charlotte. The little one's been kind to me so far."
Just as Coby took a sip of water, Rosita, ever the matriarch, decided to steer the conversation in a more serious direction.
"So, Stefan, Coby," she began, her tone casual but with an edge of expectancy, "when are you two planning on getting married?"
Coby, caught completely off guard, spat out the water she was drinking, droplets splashing across the table.
Rosita gave her a pointed look. "No spitting at the table, Coby."
Coby quickly dabbed at her mouth with a napkin, throwing a quick glance at Stefan, who looked equally startled. "Mom, what do you mean by getting married?" she asked, her voice laced with shock and confusion.
Rosita set her fork down and looked at Coby as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Well, since you and Stefan are dating and expecting a child, it's only natural to start planning a wedding."
Coby's eyes widened as she looked across the table at Charlotte. "You told her?"
"I had to," Charlotte said, shrugging.
Coby groaned inwardly, turning back to her mother. "Mom, it's way too early to be planning any wedding. Stefan and I haven't even discussed it."
Rosita, undeterred, leaned forward slightly. "Nonsense, Coby. You've got a baby on the way, and the two of you aren't getting any younger. It's important to start thinking about your future as a family. You love each other, don't you? Then why wait?"
The atmosphere at the table became increasingly uncomfortable, with Stefan remaining silent as Rosita continued to press the matter.
The rest of the dinner was awkward, with Rosita's words hanging over them like a cloud. Coby could barely eat, her thoughts racing as she wondered what Stefan was thinking.
After what felt like an eternity, the dinner finally ended. Stefan and Coby made their polite goodbyes before heading out to the car. As Stefan drove, the silence between them was heavy, far different from their usual easygoing banter.
Coby, sitting in the passenger seat, noticed Stefan's unusual quietness. His jaw was tense, and his grip on the steering wheel was firm, his eyes focused on the road ahead. The silence was suffocating.
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, Coby broke the silence. "Don't pay attention to what my Mom said," she said softly, glancing at him. "She just wants what she thinks is best for us, but that doesn't mean we have to rush into anything. We can take things at our own pace. I don't want you to feel pressured or uncomfortable."
Stefan's expression softened as he heard the concern in Coby's voice. He reached over, taking her hand in his, while his other hand remained steady on the wheel.
