♥ In A Heartbeat ♥
The following morning, Coby found herself in the kitchen, standing by the countertop with a dreamy smile plastered on her face. Her cheeks were flushed with a soft, pink hue as she thought about the kiss she and Stefan had shared the night before. She was so caught up in the memory that she couldn't help but smile at herself, her eyes glazed over as she stared into nothingness.
It was almost funny how she kept replaying the scene in her mind, her heart doing little flips every time she remembered the way Stefan had looked at her, the way his lips had felt against hers. She was practically glowing with happiness, lost in her own little world.
She chuckled to herself, feeling like a schoolgirl with a silly crush. The kiss had been so unexpected, so unlike anything she'd ever imagined, and now she couldn't get it out of her head.
"He actually kissed me," she murmured, grinning from ear to ear.
Her blush deepened as she recalled the way Stefan's lips had felt on hers, soft and warm, yet so confident. She hadn't known he could be so tender, so… romantic.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of Stefan's footsteps descending the stairs, snapping her out of her daydream. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly turned, rushing over to the bottom of the stairs. She stood there, her face lit up with excitement, as she watched Stefan’s tall, suited figure come into view.
"Good morning!" she chirped, her voice bright and cheerful, her smile stretching from ear to ear.
But Stefan, dressed sharply in his suit with his briefcase in hand, didn't even look at her. His expression was as cold and unyielding as ever, his gaze fixed straight ahead as he walked down the stairs and past her without a word. He didn't even acknowledge her presence as he made his way to the door. He opened it, stepped outside, and shut the door behind him with a firm click.
Coby stood there, frozen in place, her mouth slightly open in shock. Her wide eyes blinked in disbelief as she tried to process what had just happened.
What the hell was that? she thought, her mind racing. Thought he said he wouldn't be mean and arrogant anymore. So what's with the coldness this morning? And after the kiss they shared—He even kissed me last night!
"Jerk," Coby muttered under her breath, fuming as she turned to head back to the kitchen. She was barely halfway there when she heard the front door creak open again. She turned around just as Stefan walked back in, but before she could say anything, he closed the distance between them in two swift strides.
Without a word, Stefan pulled Coby into his arms, catching her completely off guard as he pressed his lips to hers in a firm, passionate kiss. Coby's eyes widened in surprise before they fluttered shut, her hands instinctively reaching up to grasp the lapels of his suit. The kiss was intense, filled with all the emotions Stefan had kept bottled up, and it left Coby's head spinning.
When he finally broke the kiss, Stefan looked down at her, a small, satisfied smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"Morning," he murmured softly, his voice low and smooth.
And just like that, he turned around, leaving Coby standing there breathless and bewildered as he walked out the door again. The sound of the door clicking shut echoed in the quiet hallway.
A slow, dazed smile spread across her face, her cheeks flushing even redder as she touched her lips, still feeling the warmth of his kiss.
"What just happened?" she whispered to herself, her heart fluttering like crazy.
