Gradient had recently heard about Arctic and Foeslayer planning to taking Darkstalker and Whiteout to meet Queen Diamond, which had Gradient worried for multiple reasons. Gradient had planned on telling Queen Vigilance how he felt about her but this had distracted him and seemed like the more important thing to pay attention to.

Gradient had talked to Whiteout and Darkstalker a few hours when he had a small break, neither of them seemed worried, but Darkstalker had a look in his eyes that worried Gradient. Gradient knew he shouldn't worry about things but he didn't trust Queen Diamond and Darkstalker seemed way too calm as he was usually hostile at the suggest of going to the icewing kingdom.

"Gradient, Queen Vigilance wishes to know if your done with your latest piece." Ask one of the guards as if they approached Gradient's art studio, Gradient then said, "Um.... Yeah, I just need some more time."

The guard nodded and said, "Very well." The guard then left,Gradient put down his brush as he thought about what Darkstalker was planning, Gradient always knew Darkstalker was evil and despite him not hating icewings, he still clearly had a need for power and queen Diamond was a direct link to power.

Queen Diamond was also a big concern as she wasn't one to change her mind, sure Gradient was all for seeing the best in dragons but this was clearly a trap, thankfully nobody was that stupid and Arctic had made an enchantment to protect them.

Gradient's nerves were getting to him, if Diamond did anything, which she probably would, Darkstalker might use that as an excuse to kill Queen Diamond and rule the icewing and Gradient doubted he'd stop there. Gradient thought for a moment, he couldn't stop this, but perhaps he could do something else.

Silence hit Gradient hard as the idea came to him, he could stop this if he killed Darkstalker. Gradient knew it was crazy, possibly stupid, but Gradient had heard the queen already planning it when he returned, but Gradient felt that would be far too late.

Gradient grabbed his artist robe and a unpainted mask, he tied his fur back with a small bit of rope. Gradient grabbed a dagger from his bag and quietly snuck out the window, he'd have to kill Darkstalker to keep the peace between the tribes.

The fear of what Darkstalker could do, overwhelmed any and all fears of blood and death that Gradient had, he had to do this, it was his duty.
