The entire room has been fairly quiet for the rest of the day. The boys just watched Aris lay in his bed, on top of his sheets, and stare at the ceiling. He looked seconds away from falling asleep, but he barely even blinked. He just gazed at the roof, his expression numb and pained. Even at lunch he stayed dead silent, not eating anything either. He just fixated on the ground as he seemed close to tears.
Nobody knew what to do, and nobody knew how to help him.
Because nobody could help him. Nobody but Y/N.
As everyone was sitting in a circle, talking amongst themselves, he stayed still. If you were to squint you would mistake him for being dead.
His friends were already worried about him. While there was no right way to take what had happened, this was a pretty heavy start. It was as if he had been flung right into the deep end, and the only person who could get him out didn't recognize anything about him.
Seeing as he was a few feet away, nobody said anything about it. They just played Go Fish while worrying about him in their minds.
As Minho was about to make Gally lose there was a knock on the door. On instinct, everyone, even Aris, sat straight up and looked towards the sound.
Taking her key, Ava unlocked the door that Gally had managed to scrap together with no suspicion. Walking in, she held the arm of an unfamiliar boy. He was as pale as a ghost with hair darker than soot. His brown eyes could almost be mistaken for a deep black. He was shorter than all of them but still fairly skinny. He was around their age and had nothing remarkable about him.
Nothing except for his cold eyes.
“Everybody, this is Maverick. From now on, he’ll be staying with all of you,”She explained as she led him to the bed that was supposed to be reserved for one person.
It was clear Y/N wasn't coming back to that bed though. From now on, Maverick would occupy it.
Holding in a groan, Aris laid down and buried himself under his covers. Shutting his eyes, he willed himself not to cry as another piece of his heart was ripped from his chest.
That was supposed to be Y/N’s bed. Not some strangers.
“I trust that you will make him feel welcomed,”She spoke, nodding at the group before walking out of the room. Shutting the door behind her, she locked it before watching through the small window.
Hopefully, this experiment is successful.
They just don't know how safe he is to be around others yet.
Then again, that was a huge point of Experiment 2.2.
Your P.O.V
As I said I would be, I was outside of Aris’s door, my key in my pocket and backpack on my back.
It was go time. It's time to get out of WCKD for good.
He told me that he would be up and ready. He also seems to be the most trustworthy person there is so of course I believe him.
Putting my card to the door, I waited for three seconds until it dinged. Like I have been these few days, I opened the door and stood there.
This time though, I didn't call so that way nobody else would wake up. I simply put my fingers to my lips and gestured for him to come with me.
Getting out of bed, he slipped his shoes on before swiftly yet silently strolling past everybody. Coming to the just ajar door, he easily slid through the space and to the other side.
