The Clark family was chatting with my parents about the town while Aiden and I were locked in an unspoken staring contest.
I tuned back into the conversation as one of the men spoke.
"Aiden told us that Ben, he, and your daughter have become fast friends, so we wanted to come introduce ourselves—"My parents started coughing, and the man made sure they were okay before continuing.
"I was just saying that we're happy to see Aiden and Benny fitting in. We move around a lot, so Aiden's always been homeschooled. It's been a while since Ben's been in public school, too."
So that's why he seemed so eager for friends.
My father smiled and asked, "Oh, that's exciting. Are you guys having fun?"
Aiden gave me a devilish smile before switching to a normal one and answered, "Yep! Especially with the field trip. I thought it'd be fun for Ashlyn to come along too. Ben and I are going, along with the rest of the group, so she wouldn't be alone."
We locked eyes, and I could feel his mischievous grin waiting to cause more trouble in my life.
My parents looked at me, and I was ready to disappear. "What field trip?" The adult Clark asked next.
"Oh, you don't know? The kids have this group history project about Savannah."
"Oh, right. Ash was talking about that earlier."
"Their teacher also planned a field trip to Savannah for the project. It'll be an overnight trip, though."
They continued talking for a bit, and Aiden handed me one of the permission slips before they left. He gave me a smile and mouthed, "You should do it," before saying goodbye to her parents and waving.

By the time we went on the field trip, both my parents and Aiden were surprised that I had been convinced. Our entire group was indeed there, with the twins currently arguing and Logan on a call.
Everyone started filing onto the bus, and our trip to Savannah was officially underway.
