"Ashlyn..." Tyler whispered loud enough for me to hear
"It's okay, it'll work. Just keep running." I say not turning back.We made it to the Jeep, phantoms approaching rapidly. Everyone else faced the car
"It worked! We're not gonna die!"
"Told you... It's locked?!" Seething, I turned around.
"You spoke too soon, Taylor."
"I thought you said you made sure it was unlocked with the keys inside?!"
"I did! One of my parents must have grabbed it or something!"Logan looked confused, sitting atop the roof of a bus, until I told him the situation using her walkie. He seemed to relax a little.
We headed inside in search of the keys when the others were inside, a pop was heard. Aiden fell down to the ground almost immediately.
"Whoa! What are you- your ankle."I notice how he holds his ankle "Aiden you idiot. You sprung it after you jumped, didn't you, 'Mr. Durable?!" My voice get slightly louder
Aiden and I lagged behind the others, with Logan keeping watch at the junkyard for buses near my house. The other three were already searching for the keys to my parents' Jeep. Aiden had twisted his ankle jumping off the wall of the junkyard, making him slow, so I stayed behind to make sure he was safe.
Well, that didn't go as planned...
"You ran all the way here with it like that?? You should've just-" I let out a sigh.
A phantom grabbed me from the roof and yanked me up by the back of my shirt. Aiden was rendered useless until he managed to stand up, and now he was trying to get onto the roof to rescue me. Tyler heard the commotion and rushed outside to see what was going on. He saw Aiden halfway up the roof and asked, "What the hell are you doing?"
"A phantom grabbed Ashlyn! And I'm getting her back!" Aiden exclaimed, a determined expression on his face as he climbed the rest of the way up with Tyler's help.
"Ack!" I yelped as the phantom banged my head against the roof. Everything was spinning.
I c-can't fight back properly!
Can Logan see what happening? I need to give him and opening.
Somehow!I stab the phantom with my knife in my shoe. It screamed bloody hell.
It chokes me. This bad. This is really really bad!
Aiden was finally on the roof. As a bullet ran straight through the phantom's head. Thanks to Logan, Aiden reaches out his hand. I let out a sigh of relief,"... Thanks," I started to say, but I slipped, tumbling down off the roof.
"Ash!" Aiden grabbed hold of my arm, desperately trying to pull me back up. I couldn't even let out a yelp—I couldn't believe what was happening. Could I have... died?
He seemed to try to use all his strength to hold me up, his hand shaking. Was he... scared? Aiden held me close, and it seemed like he wasn't going to let go. I could feel his hand trembling, but right now... it was the right time. I buried my face into his shoulder, hugging him back.
Aiden looked a bit shocked at the sudden embrace, but then he hugged me back tightly.
I couldn't believe how much I relied on these people—how fiercely they'd fight for me. Then suddenly the vivid image popped back into my min..
I could feel the phantom shifting, its grip tightening as it readjusted, and every ounce of my being screamed. "LET ME GO!!". It tilted its head like as if it was confused.I'm sorry..." Aiden mumbled, his voice trembling. I didn't say anything... well, I could have, but I genuinely felt like I couldn't.
Tears form and start slowly falling from my eyes.
