The school library was Y/N's sanctuary, a peaceful retreat from the chaotic swirl of student council meetings and the constant demands of school life. It was her safe space, filled with the calming scent of old books and the soft hum of distant whispers. Today, Y/N was surrounded by towering piles of textbooks and scattered notes as she tried to focus on her research for an upcoming project.

She was so engrossed in her work that she barely notices how far she had buried herself into the library's deepest aisles. With a sigh, Y/N stood up from her table and stretched, rubbing her eyes from the strain of too many hours spent staring at the letters on the books. She glanced at the rows of bookshelves looming overheard and spotted a book she needed perched high on the top shelf.

Determined, Y/N moved closer and tried to reach it, but it was too far out of her grasp. She stood on her tiptoes and stretched her fingers as far as she could, feeling a bit ridiculous. Just when she was about to give up, a smooth voice from behind her said, "Need some help?"

Startled, Y/N whipped around to see a tall boy, casually holding the very book she had been struggling to reach. He had a composed air about him, with a dark hair and a calm smile that made her feel instantly at ease.

He's pretty. Wait. WHAT?....she thought.

"Oh, thank you!" Y/N said, accepting the book with a grateful smile. "I didn't think anyone else was back her."

He chuckled softly, "This section doesn't get much traffic, does it?"

"No, it really doesn't," Y/N said with a laugh. "I guess only us nerds end up here."

The boy smiled and introduced himself. "I'm Akaashi Keiji. Second year."

"Nice to meet you, Akaashi. I'm L/N F/N, just call me Y/N cause everyone called me that and I'm a second year too," she replied, still flustered from the surprise. "I've seen you around before, I think. Are you on the volleyball team?"

"Yeah, I am," he said, his voice as steady as his gaze. "And you're in the student council, right?"

Y/N nodded, impressed that he had noticed. "Yeah, I'm the vice-president. It's busy, but I still like to come here to unwind and study. What about you? Are you working on a project too?"

Akaashi gestured to a few books in his hands. "I've got a report to write. The library is the best place to focus—no distractions." Then, they continued their conversation while walking away from the aisle together to the table.

"Exactly," Y/N said, her smile widening. "It's my little oasis. Though, I seem to be causing more chaos than usual today."

As if to prove her point, Y/N's elbow bumped a precarious stack of notes on her table, sending them fluttering to the floor. She gasped in dismay, scrambling to gather them up.

Akaashi knelt beside her without hesitation. "I guess we're both in for some cleanup," he said, a soft laugh escaping him.

Y/N glanced over at him, feeling a rush of warmth from his easygoing nature. "I swear I'm usually more organized than this," she said trying to stifle her own laughter. "You must think I'm a total mess."

"I think everyone has off days," Akaashi replied, neatly stacking the papers into a pile and handing them back to her. "It's nothing to be embarrassed about."

She took the papers from him with a small smile, grateful for his help. As they stood up, she noticed how close they had gotten, both of them comfortably leaning against the table as if they had known each other for more than just a few minutes.

"So, what's your project about?" Y/N asked, hoping to prolong the conversation. There was something calming about talking to Akaashi—his presence was both grounding and pleasant.

"It's for literature class," he explained. "I'm writing an analysis on symbolism in classical poetry. Not the most exciting topic, but it's interesting once you get into it."

"Sounds pretty impressive," Y/N said, genuinely intrigued. "I've never been great with poetry. I can handle essays and speeches, but poems? Not my thing."

Akaashi chuckled, his eyes softening with amusement. "It's tricky at first, but once you start to understand the layers of meaning, it gets easier."

Y/N nodded, watching as Akaashi's expression lit up slightly while he talked about his project. She found herself relaxing more around him, and the conversation flowed naturally between them. They exchanged stories about their favorite places in the library, joked about the stress of school life, and even discussed some of their future plans—although Akaashi seemed a bit more reserved on that front.

At some point, Y/N glanced at the clock and realized how much time had passed. "Wow, I didn't mean to keep you for so long. You probably have more work to do."

Akaashi shook his head. "I was just taking a break anyway. Besides, it's been nice talking to you. If you ever need help reaching another book or just someone to chat with, feel free to find me."

Y/N smiled, feeling a light flutter in her chest at his words. "I'll definitely keep that in mind. And thanks again for helping me out today. I'm usually the one helping others, so it was a nice change."

"Anytime," Akaashi replied with a nod, his voice as calm as ever. He glanced at his watch and grabbed his books. "I should probably get back to my report, but I'll see you around, Y/N."

As Akaashi walked away, Y/N watched him go with a smile still lingering on her face. For the first time that day, she felt like everything had fallen into place. The library, her beloved sanctuary, had brought her an unexpected but welcome connection.

She couldn't help but think that perhaps this wouldn't be the last time she ran into Akaashi in the quiet corners of the library.
