As they all sat in the peaceful afternoon breeze, Bokuto suddenly straightened up, his face lighting up with another idea.
"Hey!" he exclaimed, turning to Y/N and Akaashi. "If we're going to solve this secret admirer mystery, we should totally exchange numbers! That way, we can share any clues we find. It'll be like a detective squad!"
Y/N blinked at him, amused by his excitement. "A detective squad?"
"Yeah!" Bokuto nodded enthusiastically. "We can keep each other updated in real-time. You never know when a new clue might pop up."
Akaashi, who was calmly packing away the remains of his lunch, glanced over at Y/N. "That... actually makes sense. If you're serious about helping with this, exchanging numbers would make communication easier."
Y/N hesitated, her smile faltering for just a second. She wasn't exactly sure why she felt this weird knot in her stomach. Maybe it was the idea of forming this trio to chase after someone else's feelings for Akaashi. She wasn't quite sure
Y/N smiled, nodding in agreement. "Sure, why not? We can help each other keep an eye out."
Bokuto quickly pulled out his phone, holding it out toward Y/N. "Here, I'll give you mine first!"
Laughing at Bokuto's enthusiasm, Y/N took his phone and entered her number before handing it back. "Alright, you're officially part of the 'secret admirer detective squad,'" she joked.
Bokuto grinned, flashing a thumbs-up. "Yes! This is going to be great!"
Akaashi held out his phone next, his expression much calmer but with a faint smile tugging at his lips. Y/N took it from him and added her number, handing it back once she was done.
"Now we're all connected," Akaashi said as he saved Y/N's number.
Y/N smiled, feeling a strange warmth settle over her. She had never expected to be forming this odd little trio with two members of the volleyball team, let alone under such bizarre circumstances. But she found she didn't mind it at all.
Bokuto looked at his phone, then grinned mischievously. "Okay, so step one of our mission: If anyone spots anything mysterious—new notes, suspicious behavior, anything—text the group right away. And we'll regroup for further investigation!"
Y/N couldn't help but laugh. "You're really taking this seriously, huh?"
"Of course!" Bokuto replied with a big grin. "We're detectives now! And detectives never give up!"
Akaashi sighed, though there was clear amusement in his eyes. "Let's just hope this mystery doesn't take too long to solve."
Y/N nodded along, but there was a strange, persistent ache in her chest she couldn't ignore. Maybe it was the thought of helping them find the person who liked Akaashi—a person who wasn't her. She didn't know why that thought stung so much, but it did.
Why am I feeling like this?
With the group chat created and their mission officially on, Y/N tucked her phone back into her bag, forcing herself to smile. She wanted to be excited, but instead, she felt like she was on the outside of her own story, watching it unfold without her.
As they parted ways, Y/N couldn't shake the lingering sense of disappointment. Whether or not they found Akaashi's secret admirer, she couldn't help but wonder if she'd end up losing something—someone—before the mystery was solved.
