It had been a few days since Y/N's fateful meeting with Akaashi in the library, and she couldn't shake the lingering thoughts of their conversation. There was something about his calm, collected demeanor that left her curious, yet comforted at the same time. But as much as she had enjoyed their brief time together, school life marched on, and her focus returned to the endless list of student council duties.
Today, Y/N was rushing down the hallway, balancing a stack of flies in one arm while juggling her phone in the other. She was typing a quick message to the council president when she rounded a corner too quickly and—wham!—collided with someone, sending her files flying and her phone clattering to the ground.
"Ow!" she yelped, more from surprise than pain. "I'm so sorry!"
"Whoa, that's some power!" a loud, cheery voice boomed above her.
Y/N looked up to see a tall boy with wild hair and an even wilder grin. His energy was practically vibrating off of him as he crouched down to help her gather her scattered papers. Standing next to him, looking bemused but slightly exasperated, was none other than Akaashi.
"Bokuto-san, maybe tone it down a notch," Akaashi said with a sigh, though was a faint smile on his lips.
Y/N blinked, connecting the dots. "Bokuto... as in Bokuto Koutarou? The ace of the volleyball team?"
Bokuto's eyes sparkled. "That's me!" he declared proudly, puffing out his chest. "It's great to meet a fan! I've heard all about you from Akaashi!"
Y/N shot Akaashi a confused look as she gathered the last of her paper. "You've talked about me?"
Akaashi rubbed the back of his neck akwardly. "Not exactly. Bokuto-san tends to over-exaggerate."
Bokuto, ignoring Akaashi, grinned even wider. "Akaashi mentioned he met a super-smart girl in the library! And I thought, 'Whoa, Akaashi making friends? This I gotta see!'"
Y/N couldn't help but laugh at Bokuto's enthusiasm. "I wouldn't call it making friends. We just bumped into each other while studying."
"Friends, acquaintances, same thing!" Bokuto said with a shrug. "Anyway, you're the vice-president of the student council, L/N F/N, right? That's pretty cool."
Y/N nodded, still smiling. "Yeah, that's me and you can just call me Y/N. And you're...very energetic."
Bokuto beamed. "Yup! I get that a lot."
Akaashi stepped in, giving Y/N a small, apologetic smile. "Sorry for the collision. Bokuto-san has a way of making things...chaotic."
"Hey!" Bokuto protested, crossing his arms and pouted.
Before Y/N could respond, Bokuto suddenly brightened even more, as if remembering something important. "Oh! Akaashi, remember that thing?"
Akaashi raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. "What thing?"
Bokuto leaned in dramatically, lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. "You know... the thing with the—"
Akaashi's eyes widened in realization. "Bokuto-san, no."
But it was too late. Bokuto's excitement could not be contained. "The secret admirer!" he blurted out.
Y/N froze, her heart skipping a beat. "Secret admirer?"
Akaashi sighed deeply, clearly not thrilled with where this conversation was headed. "Bokuto-san..."
But Bokuto was on a roll now, ignoring Akaashi's attempts to stop him.
"Yeah! Someone's been leaving these little notes in Akaashi's locker. I told him it's gotta be someone who likes him, but he's all 'it's probably nothing.'" He waved his hand dismissively, mimicking Akaashi's calm demeanor.
Y/N's mind raced as she tried to process what she had just heard.
Notes? Secret admirer? And Akaashi had just been brushing it off like it was no big deal?
Trying to play it cool, Y/N forced a casual laugh. "I didn't know people still did that kind of thing."
Akaashi gave her a slightly sheepish look. "I don't really pay much attention to it."
Bokuto, oblivious to the shift in the mood, clapped a hand on Y/N's shoulder. "If I were you, I'd help Akaashi figure it out! You seem like the smart, detective-type!"
Y/N chuckled nervously, her mind whirling. "I'll see what I can do."
Akaashi, clearly trying to change the subject, gestured to the papers in Y/N's arms. "You sure you're okay with all that? Looks like a lot to carry."
"Yeah, I'm fine," Y/N said, adjusting the files in her grip. "But I should probably get these to the council room before something else happens."
"Let me help you," Akaashi offered, reaching out to take some of the files from her. His touch was gentle, and for a moment, Y/N felt a flutter in her chest.
"Thanks," she said, smiling up at him. "I appreciate it."
As they started walking together down the hall, Bokuto trailed behind them, still chatting away about volleyball practice and how Akaashi needed to be more open to the idea of having a secret admirer. Y/N tried to listen, but her mind kept drifting back to the possibility that someone liked Akaashi enough to leave him notes.
The funny thing was, she couldn't decide if she felt relieved that it wasn't her—or disappointed.
As they reached the student council room, Akaashi handed her the remaining files. "Good luck with everything," he said, his voice calm as always.
"Thanks," Y/N replied, her smile a little brighter than before. "And good luck with your... secret admirer."
Akaashi sighed, but there was a hint of amusement in his eyes. "I think I'll need it."
Bokuto, who had been uncharacteristically quiet for a moment, suddenly perked up. "Wait, wait! I just thought of something! What if... the secret admirer is someone super close to us? Like right under our noses!"
Akaashi and Y/N both looked at him, puzzled. "What are you talking about?" Akaashi asked, clearly confused.
Bokuto leaned in, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Like... what if it's you, Y/N?"
Y/N nearly dropped the files again, her face flushing bright red. "What? Me? No way!"
Akaashi looked between them, his expression unreadable. "Bokuto-san, that's... unlikely."
Bokuto just laughed, clapping his hands together. "I'm just kidding! But hey, you never know. Life's full of surprises!"
As Bokuto's laughter echoed down the hallway, Y/N couldn't help but glance at Akaashi, her heart racing a little faster than before. Maybe life really was full of surprises.
And maybe, just maybe, one of those surprises was about to catch her completely off guard.
