In the shadows

Chapter 24

After the whole "Claire incident", Ivy walked home to Newt.

She knocked 3 times on the door and waited for Newt to open it, and he did after a few seconds.

"Hey Ivy! Don't you have work today?" Newt asked.

"Yeah but I was suspended for a week." 

Newt just shrugged.

"Why?"

Ivy sighed.

"I slapped someone." she answers nonchalantly.

"Why?" Newt asks again.

"She was saying bad things about you."

Newt nods.

"Well come inside."

Ivy and Newt spent the afternoon in the basement, feeding all kinds of different creatures.

Later Theseus also came, and Ivy repeated the story again for him.

Theseus had chuckled.

"Well your not really a sticker for rules either are you." he said, smiling.

"This is the first time I've broken the rules!" Ivy protested.

Theseus just smiled.

When Ivy got to work after a week, she got a lot of weird looks from her coworkers. It unsettled her a little, but she didn't think of it anymore that day, assuming that it was just that she had slapped Claire.

Until that afternoon.

Ivy was packing up in the locker room when she heard commotion at the front desk. Curious, Ivy grabbed her things and walked over to the source of the shouting.

"I swear, she didn't do anything!" Pandoria's voice echoed through the almost empty lobby.

"Where is she?" a formal looking person asked.

From the looks of it, he was probably an auror.

"Where is who?" Ivy asked from her corner.

Pandoria turned around to look at Ivy, so did the auror's.

"Are you Miss Scamander?" The auror asked.

"Yes I am, why are you wondering?" 

The auror sighed.

"Miss Scamander, you are now under arrest." he spoke firmly.

Ivy was frozen in shock.

"B-But I didn't do anything!" Ivy manages to stutter out after she processes what the auror had said.

Pandoria looks at Ivy.

"Didn't you read the daily prophet this morning? It was all over it, even made the front page." she says.

Ivy shakes her head.

"I didn't read it this morning, I-I didn't have time..." 

The auror grabs Ivy firmly by her arm.

"Now Miss Scamander, you are wanted at the ministry for questioning. We don't have to make this hard, just cooperate with us okay? If you're proven innocent we'll let you go."

Ivy nods and follows the auror out of St. Mungos.

When she glances back she sees Pandoria's concerned expression and Claire grinning in the doorway to the staffroom.

Then the door closes behind her and she's lead into the cool spring afternoon.
