Can't Have Both

Promises Broken

"What happened to your hand?" Robby had asked.

" Training accident. I'm ok." Tory said not convincing Robby. After Silver got arrested Robby brought Tory home, promising his dad he would be back somewhat before morning, leaving out details. 

They arrived at her door when Robby spun her around to kiss her. He pushed her into the door and kissed her roughly. But the door unexpectedly opened. They immediately jumped apart from each other. Lucky for them Brandon was staring at the TV that was on as he opened the door.

" ROBBY!" The little boy shouted before giving him a hug. 

Tory tugged him off her boyfriend, a little upset he had to ruin their kiss. Especially since they just got back together. " Shouldn't you be in bed?" She asked Brandon. 

He said, " I didn't see you. I woke up to use the bathroom and couldn't find you." 

" Well, back to bed." She said.

Tory set her stuff down and went to tuck Brandon back to bed , leaving the door open for Robby in case he wanted to come in. He did. 

He sat on the couch and waited for Tory to tuck him in. 5 minutes later she came out and sat next to him. She mentally prepared herself, knowing she would be asked questions.  

" What really happened to your hand?" He asked after sitting for a few minutes in silence. 

Tory sighed. " You won't like it." She said. He just nodded. He was waiting. 

" I... I wasn't at the qualifiers for the Sekei Tekei. I didn't go because well, Silver. I couldn't have him win. And, yeah. I was taking orders from Kreese. But he left me on my own to pick if I wanted to fight or not. And when I saw you I just... I couldn't. I didn't... I saw you smiling and it just reminded me of when..." She cut off. Her eyes were glossy.  He took her  hand in hers. 

" Hey. It's ok. Its over now." He said. She nodded and continued. 

" My sensei didn't like that. So she held me back the first class back. And she..." She just figured she'd let it out.

" She wouldn't let me leave until I broke a stone slab." Robby gasped.

" WHAT?!" He shouted. 

" SHHH" She said. " My mom and Brandon are sleeping." She said. She put her hand up to cover his mouth but it was the hurt one and she immediately squirmed in pain. He took her hand in his.

" And she wasn't being nice about it so I was forced to break the stone. I... she... I couldn't break it. I ... it was stone. But she used you. She taunted me using you. She said I cared more about you and the dojo and..." She had tears streaming down her face and  she stopped for a second to catch her breath. Her breathing was getting ragged. She took a deep breath as Robby rubbed her back. 

" I told her..." She paused sniffling. " That I broke up with you because of the dojo." She stopped. She took another breath and then said, " I was aiming for her face but hit the stone and it broke." She looked down, tears coming down. 

Robby went to wipe them, but all of a sudden she started sobbing. She was crying for the first time in front of Robby. He pulled her into a hug, careful of her hand, and said, " It's ok Tor. You're safe now."  He said stroking her hair as she cried.

" I don't want you to leave me." She cried. 

" It's ok. I won't leave you Tory. Just promise me, you'll stay away from them and Cobra Kai forever." He said. She pulled away and looked him in the face. 

" Yeah, definitely. " She said. He wiped her tears, then leaned in to kiss her.

Another broken promise. Robby thought. How many more? He wasn't  sure. That was one. She went back to Cobra Kai. She also broke their promise about winning the Sekei Tekai together. And now Robby was almost sure she wouldn't keep their promise about keeping their relationship out of the Karate War. He saw her with Kreese. He knew how much he meant to her. But he had hoped he meant more. 

He had called her, but she blocked him or deleted his number. He wasn't sure because the operator wouldn't go to her phone. Maybe she did both.

Sitting on the floor, back to the wall, and knees up, Robby let a few tears come. He had thought they would be in this together. 

She needed him. She wasn't in the right head place right now, with her mom dead. But she also needed to get her head in the game. Otherwise bad stuff could happen.

He looked to his phone. 2:03 am. The Sekei Tekai was officially tomorrow. How would he do it without her. He couldn't fathom it. 

He needed to talk to someone. But who would be awake? Miguel went to sleep with Sam, and out of respect Devon took Miguel's room. Afraid of what she would hear or see. She was close to Tory. But he didn't know if she would want to talk about this. Their was always Hawk and Demetri, but they were fighting themselves about MIT. He didn't want to get into the middle of that. He couldn't talk to his dad or Mr. Larusso about this, because they would make it awkward. 

Devon stirred. 

Robby looked and made sure she didn't wake. He didn't want someone to find him crying. 

Too late. 

She was getting up. 

"Robby?" She asked. Her voice groggy. She sat up and looked around. She seemed disoriented.

" Down here." He called after wiping his tears. It was dark. maybe she wouldn't notice.

" Oh, I heard something. I was just dreaming about the Sekai Te- Wait. Why are you down there?" She asked.

" Fell and didn't want to get back up." He said, but got up. She laughed.

" Well, I'm going to try to fall asleep." She said, turning over, obviously still tired.

"Wait!" He said loudly. She turned.

" Sorry, I just have a question. "

" Shoot." She said.

" How do you feel about Tory leaving?" He asked. Devon immediately sucked in a breath. 

" Uh.. Why do you ask?" She said. 

" I've been... thinking about her. Also saw her a couple times. And I just... wanted to hear someone else talk." He said. 

Devon knew how he must be feeling. She had guessed he hadn't really fallen off the bed. He had been up all night because of her.

" I feel bad for her. I know what it's like, when your mom dies. It sucks. We all should give her grace. She's going through something, and needs a break." 

Robby nodded. After a few minutes of silence Devon said " Goodnight" Before turning in. 

Robby sat on his bed, before nodding off, making a list of the broken promises.
