Sunoo had been craving something sweet all day, so he decided to visit the cozy café next to the HYBE building. It was his usual spot, a place where he could enjoy some peace with a slice of cake. After ordering his favorite strawberry shortcake, a chocolate croissant, and an iced chocolate, he found a seat by the window, ready to indulge in his treats.
As he was about to take his first bite, the door to the café opened, and he noticed three familiar faces—Minji, Hanni, and Hyein from NewJeans. The girls were laughing and chatting as they walked in, but their faces lit up in surprise when they spotted him.
"Sunoo oppa!" Minji exclaimed, nudging the others. Hanni and Hyein looked over, their eyes widening in recognition.
"Hey!" Sunoo greeted them with a warm smile. "Come join me!"
They exchanged excited glances before quickly placing their orders and making their way to his table. As they sat down, the initial surprise of seeing him soon turned into a comfortable atmosphere, with everyone easing into the conversation.
"What brings you here?" Sunoo asked, taking a sip of his iced chocolate.
"We had some free time after practice and wanted something sweet too," Minji explained. "This café is our favorite."
"Mine too," Sunoo agreed, nodding. "It's perfect for a quick break, especially with how close it is to the company."
The conversation flowed naturally as they all dug into their desserts. Sunoo took a bite of his strawberry shortcake, savoring the light texture and fresh strawberries. As they enjoyed their food, Sunoo turned his attention to Hyein.
"Hyein, you're born in 2008, right?" he asked, curiosity in his voice.
Hyein nodded, a shy smile on her face. "Yeah, I just turned 15."
Sunoo shook his head in amazement. "Wow, you're so young! You know, Ni-ki was only 14 when he debuted with us, and now he's already 18. It's crazy how time flies."
"Ni-ki was 14? That's amazing," Hyein responded, clearly impressed. "I didn't know he was that young."
"Yeah, it wasn't easy for him," Sunoo said, chuckling. "But he handled it really well. Being young in this industry is tough. There's a lot to juggle—school, work, everything."
Hanni chimed in, glancing at Hyein. "It's definitely a lot to balance, but you're doing great, Hyein. We're all here to support you."
Hyein blushed at the compliment, her smile growing. "Thanks, unnie. It's been a big adjustment, but I'm really happy to be doing this. It's a dream come true."
Sunoo's expression softened as he nodded. "That's the right attitude. Just take it one day at a time and don't forget to enjoy the ride. This is such a special time in your life, so make the most of it."
The conversation continued, with Sunoo sharing stories from ENHYPEN's early days. He talked about the challenges they faced as a new group and how they had to find their rhythm under the pressures of debuting with a big company. The girls listened intently, occasionally sharing their own experiences, and it felt good for Sunoo to talk so casually with them.
"So, what's been the most challenging part of your journey so far?" Sunoo asked, genuinely interested.
Minji thought for a moment before replying, "I think the hardest part has been finding our identity as a group. There's so much pressure, but we're figuring it out."
"Yeah," Hanni added, "And finding a balance between work and personal life. Sometimes it feels like we're always working, and it's hard to switch off."
Sunoo smiled, understanding their struggles. "It's all part of the journey. You'll find your balance in time. Just remember it's okay to take a break now and then. This industry is a marathon, not a sprint."
Hyein, who had been quietly listening, spoke up, "That's really good advice, oppa. It's easy to forget to take care of yourself."
"Exactly," Sunoo agreed. "Self-care is important. Make sure you're resting and taking time for yourself, even if it's just a few minutes a day. It really makes a difference."
The girls nodded, taking his words to heart. There was a moment of reflective silence before Sunoo broke it with a lighthearted comment.
"I've been listening to your songs a lot lately. NewJeans has such a unique sound, and your tracks are seriously catchy. I find myself humming them all the time," he said, grinning.
The girls beamed at his compliment. "Thank you, oppa!" Minji said, clearly pleased. "That means a lot coming from you."
"We really admire ENHYPEN," Hanni added. "It's inspiring to see how far you've come."
Sunoo chuckled, feeling a bit bashful. "We're just doing our best, but it's nice to hear that. You guys are doing amazing too, and I'm sure you'll achieve even more. I'm definitely a fan."
They all laughed, continuing to share stories and experiences. The time spent together was enjoyable, with Sunoo appreciating the youthful energy the girls brought to the conversation. As the afternoon went on, they chatted more about their lives, work, and the little things that made their journey special.
Before they knew it, the café started to fill up with the evening crowd, signaling that it was time to head back to their schedules. Sunoo stood up, gathering his things as the girls followed suit.
"This was fun," he said with a smile. "We should do it again sometime."
"Definitely!" Hanni agreed, her eyes bright with excitement.
"Thank you for inviting us, oppa," Hyein added, her voice full of gratitude.
Sunoo waved them off as they left the café, feeling a warm sense of camaraderie. It wasn't every day he got to spend such relaxed, enjoyable time with his juniors, and he was glad he'd run into them. As he made his way back to the company building, he couldn't help but hum one of NewJeans' catchy tunes, already looking forward to the next time they'd hang out.
