KGOMOTSO
Here I was thinking my father would be back from that business trip. Apparently he went to Lesotho again. But don't all businesses close on Christmas? I guess we're spending our first Christmas without him then.
I'm quite surprised my mom didn't wake us up to prepare for church like she always did. Yes, even last year. She doesn't care if I'm a young adult, she'll wake us up early in the morning on Christmas and on Easter. She'd be blasting that CD by IPCC. That's how she used to wake us up.
I take my phone and I check the time.
It's 09:42? Eh!
Maybe she went to church alone?I quickly jump out of bed just to check if she's still in the house.
She's not in her bedroom nor is she in the bathroom.
Kgomotso: "Mma!"
"Yes?" Sounds like she's in the kitchen.
Kgomotso: "Mma? What's going on?"
Mama: "What do you mean?"
She seems so unbothered with this. Bathong!
Kgomotso: "Why are we not preparing for church?"
Mama: "Oh. That church we went to last year? Turns out that guy is a false prophet who was just scamming us."
Yikes!
And why does she seemed so unbothered? All while cooking oats.
Kgomotso: "So what's the plan?" She shrugs her shoulders.
How is she so relaxed?
Mama: "We might just spend Christmas in this house."
Kgomotso: "And papa?"
Mama: "He's coming back January."
How the heck is she so calm and relaxed about this?! It's as if she doesn't care. This is not normal. How can my father be in another country doing 'business' while his wife and kids are here alone? For Christmas ebile!
My phone rings. It's Lesego. Don't know if now is the right time to speak to him.
Mama: "Oh no. Don't stop in my presence. Answer that call. It could be important."
Oh. Okay.
Kgomotso: "Hello." I say walking back to my room.
Lesego: "Hello Kgomotso. Merry Christmas."
Kgomotso: "Merry Christmas to you too."
Lesego: "You don't sound merry. What's going on? Are you okay?"
Geez, why does he sound so concerned? It's unlike him.
Should I tell him? But what is telling gonna help with?Kgomotso: "No, I'm okay. I'm just tired."
Lesego: "You sure?"
Kgomotso: "Yes, I'm sure."
Lesego: "Okay. Are you still in Centurion?"
Why does he want to know?
Kgomotso: "No. Why?"
Lesego: "Where are you now?"
Kgomotso: "I'm at home, in Turfloop."
Lesego: "Oh, by the Maputlas and the Seakamelas?" I chuckle though that joke was dry.
Kgomotso: "Yes." I say while chuckling.
He should stick to being serious. He should never tell jokes again. That was cringe.
