The restaurant was buzzing with people swarming the tables quickly filling them as we walked in.The atmosphere was very lively. I sat with Ayanokoji, Sudo, and Ike and trying to blend into the background while eating. After we finished eating, Ayanokoji and I went to meet Horikita.
As we talked, a guy with purple hair caught my eye and started making his way towards us. I leaned in closer to Ayanokoji and asked, "Who is that?"
"Ryuen from Class C," Ayanokoji replied quietly. "He's the so-called 'leader' of their class."
Ryuen approached Horikita, and I watched as he started hitting on her, making her visibly uncomfortable. He even had the nerve to take a picture of her...A weird ass dude to be honest. Before I could react though, a girl with short blue hair suddenly appeared. This girl was clearly furious with Ryuen. Their argument escalated quickly and then she tried to punch him. Ryuen's bodyguard stepped in and threw her to the ground without a second thought.
I felt a bit concerned, so I decided to walk towards the girl and asked if she was okay. She slapped my hand away and looked at me angrily. Then she stormed off. I stood there for a moment and felt a a mix of frustration and confusion. Ayanokoji and I exchanged a quick glance before he spoke up. "That was Ibuki from Class C. She's close to Ryuen."
3rd person pov:
The ambiance of the library on the cruise ship was serene. It was definitely a stark contrast to the chaotic events unfolding where Y/n and Ayanokoji are. Sakayanagi sat calmly at a chessboard, her fingers delicately moving the pieces as she engaged in a phone call with another woman. She was playing against herself. Her voice was soft yet commanding as she spoke to the girl on the other end.
"I need you to investigate some students," Sakayanagi instructed. "Your main priority is Y/N. And if possible, keep an eye on Ayanokoji as well."
The conversation ended abruptly, and Sakayanagi returned her full focus to the chessboard, a satisfied smile playing on her lips.
Y/n pov:
It was the next day and I was lying in bed reading. Suddenly the intercom started to crackle to life and it announced that we were near our destination...it was an island. Just as I thought. I quickly got up and made my way to the front of the ship, where a crowd of students had gathered. They were all eager to catch a glimpse of the island. Excitement buzzed in the air as our class grouped together. I could tell the island was huge, I should probably pay attention to the way the island looks. It might be useful for when we have to actually stay on it.
The teacher explained our task and handed out special wristwatches. I figured it would probably be for tracking us in case someone got lost. As I listened, a guy on the microphone announced that this was going to be a special examination. We were expected to live on the island in groups for a week. Supplies were limited—just a tent, some water, sunscreen, food, and a few other essentials. We would even have to fend for ourselves and find our own food. It was really strange, but then again so is everything else at this school.
When we got on the island we were divided by class, we all discussed how to use some of our points. Whether or not if we should use it on food or tools. The girls started arguing about the lack of proper toilets, which led some guy to make an ignorant comment about women being "emotional creatures" who become irrational when triggered. His words annoyed me. I turned to him and gave him a sharp look. "Emotional? Sure. But if you think that makes us any less capable, then you're the one who's out of touch. Maybe when you catch up, you'll realize who's really in control here." Ayanokoji glanced at me, while the other guy looked annoyed. The girls admired my words.
Later on Hirata suggested splitting into groups. I chose to team up with Ayanokoji and Koenji. Koenji was off exploring and he was moving athletically through the trees. That left just me and Ayanokoji walking along. We continued walking until we came across a cave near a tree. My curiosity got the better of me and I started walking towards it. I only walked a few feet before Ayanokoji suddenly grabbed me, pulling me against him. My heart raced as I got flustered by the sudden unexpected contact. His arm encircling me with a protective firmness that left me feeling both secure and really flustered.
Before I could react, I noticed a bald guy holding a green card. He must be the leader of his group. I remembered the teacher's instructions: correctly identifying the class leaders would earn us 50 points, but a wrong guess would cost us 50. Ayanokoji held me really close...maybe a bit too close. He made sure I didn't make any sudden moves that could give us away. We stayed still, watching as the other students claimed the spot and eventually walked away.
Once they were gone, Ayanokoji let me go, his hand brushing mine ever so slightly. He looked at me with a soft, almost unreadable gaze and said, "I guess we are more in sync than I thought. Not even Horikita can move so naturally alongside me." To be honest I couldn't shake the lingering flustered feeling. There was something in his tone though. Maybe a hint of something more than a mere strategy.
Ayanokoji pov:
Her presence was... distracting. I couldn't deny the way her closeness affected me. She's becoming more than just a pawn in my game. The way she can challenge me and the way she is able to react so quickly. If she continues to challenge me I have to make sure to keep her on my side. I need to keep her close, not just to win, but...what else? I glanced at her, letting my gaze linger a bit too long.
This could complicate everything.
