Ch. 17 Threads of Betrayal

Y/n's pov:

I blinked at him and to be honest I was quite stunned by his statement. It was kind of off setting. I couldn't help it, but laugh at him.

Ryuen and Kushida both stared at me, they were clearly thrown off by my sudden reaction. Ryuens smug face faltered and a wave of confusion flashed across his face.

"What was so funny?" he asked in a low tone.

I wiped a tear from my eye, shaking my head. "Do you take me for a fool, Ryuen?" I finally spoke, my voice was low and steady. "To be frank, I do not care about any of these people.

Ryuen's was more confused but he was quite intrigued, "Then why are you here y/n?"

As Ryuen's eyes lingered on me, a smirk crept up his lips. "You know," he began before I could even respond to his question" he said, leaning back slightly.

"I've been noticing you and Ayanokoji. Always in the background, watching it seems. What an interesting guy, dont you think?"

A pang of irritation hit me, why would he bring him up. Why now, this is going to cloud my judgement for sure. It reminded me how close Karuizawa was to him..the way she used his first name so casually, like she had some sort of special privilege. It ate at me, I felt no better than Sudo.

Why here?

But I obviously was not going to show my true colors. I met Ryuen's gaze and tried forcing a small smile..one that did not reach my eyes. "Ayanokoji? He likes to play his games. But let me tell you something about him Ryuen." I took a step closer to him lowering my voice. "Even the best players think they're invincible until they forget that their biggest threat is standing right beside them"

Ryuen's brow furrowed, he was slightly intrigued. He did not know the underlying meaning of this but it did not matter. I was going to flip the script on Ayanokoji.

I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice. "I have something better Ryuen...something that will make this all worthwhile for you, more than a measly 1 million points."

Ryuen was clearly invested in my proposal. He was clearly invested now or atleast he should be.

"And what would that be" He said in a calm tone

A smile played on my lips as I leaned back confidently, "I will help you bring down the one who's really pulling all the strings in Class D."

Third person pov:

Ryuen and Kushida exchanged glances at each other trying to read Y/n's expression. Was she telling the truth or was it just another twisted lie she was saying to fool them. Neither of them expected this turn of events. Ryuen could not resist the temptation of a new alliance.

But behind Y/n's calm facade, her mind was racing with so many possibilities. She had just siezed control of the situation or atleast for now. The real target was not only Ryuen or Kushida, but she could not shake the thoughts of Karuizawa's growing closeness with Ayanokoji. Especially if that tree were to blossom.

It gnawed at Y/n slowly, more than she was willingly to admit.

A slow smile started to spread across her lips as she locked eyes with Ryuen. She was growing with anticipation. "Don't worry Ryuen, you will get what you want in due time. But know this," her voice was dripping with resolve.

"This isn't about just Class D anymore, it is about settling a score."

Ryuen's curiosity deepened, however he remained silent and just nodded. Kushida looked a bit unsettle by this comment because she was mainly after getting Horikita expelled.

Ryuen stared at y/n, his smirk was fading just a bit.  Y/n has really left her mark in Ryuen's mind.  But she did not care about him, or Kushida or Horikita. 

"So you really dont care about your dear Ayanokoji?" Kushida stopped with her fake act and an unsettling smirk lit up her face.  Her voice interrupted y/n's inner thoughts.  "You say you dont care about anyone at the school including him, yet your demeanor says otherwise y/n"

"Like I said before...the best players think they're invincible until they forget that their biggest threat is standing right beside them."

Y/n leaned closer to Kushida, "The one's who think they are invincible are usually the first to fall..." Her voice was chilling.

"And when Ayanokoji falls, I will be the one who pushed him"

The real game was always between Ayanokoji and Y/n and she was not going too let anyone take that away from her. Even from the beginning in the white room all ochestrated by Atsuomi Ayanokouji
