It was Christmas day and I chose to stay in my dorm room.  I chose not to send the drafted message, instead I was going to call. I know that  Karuizawa and Hirata are going on a double date with Sato and Ayanokoji. They are planning a perfect script of lovey dovey teenagers going out to the mall.

I decided that I was not going to interfere directly at all, instead it was going to be a lot more subtle if you will.  I pulled out my phone, the glow of the screen illuminating the grin on my face.  I called Ryuen.

"Who is this?"

"I hear Class D's star couple is out today, enjoying the holidays at the mall."

I could hear Ryuen chuckle from my side of the phone.  "Consider this a payment for the blackmail you have on me" Then I hungup.  I ended the call without another word and placed my phone down on the desk.  My eyes drifted to my chessboard again on the shelf, the black king was standing solitary against the cluster of white pieces on the board.

3rd person pov:

The mall had many festive decorations adorning every corny of it.  Karuizawa, Hirata, Sato and Ayanokoji wandered through the central part of the mall.  Karuizawa was continously talking as Sato was nervously stealing glances at Ayanokoji.  as usual he was remaining unreadable while his calm gaze was fixed forward.

Y/n turned on her computer and decided to play chess against the ai, her knight advanced capturing the opposing pawn.

Ryuen spotted the 4 from above leaning on the railing of the second floor walkway.  As the group looks like they are about to depart, Ryuen waits till it is just Ayanokoji and Sato.

"Well dont you both look cozy? Ryuen drawls with his eyes scanning the two. "Two class D students on a little date on Christmas."

"Why are you here Ryuen?" Sato said a bit nervously as he tried to meet his gaze

Ryuen chuckles, ignoring her. His attention zeroed in on Ayanokoji who met his gaze with calm indifference as always. "And here I thought you did not care for these sort of things Ayanokoji." He paused with a smirk tugging at his lips. "More complicated girls, like I don't know, Y/n."

Y/n's mouse was on the queen, she was hesitant.  She slid it one square forward to protect her knight.  She knew Ryuen's game all too well.  He was using her name as bait to force Ayanokoji to crack, even if it was subtle.

"What does y/n have to do with this?" Sato snapped at Ryuen, her voice was sharp.

Y/n's rook advanced and cut off an escape route for the black king.

Ryuen's smirk widened as he turned to Sato.  "Oh it is nothing much really.  The way Ayanokoji acts around her compared to you, well he is more calm focused and attentive.  It is really not such a hard thing to notice.  Makes you wonder if you are even his type."

The knight y/n used was a sacrifice

Sato's confidence wavered as she felt embarrassed by Ryuen's statement.

"That is not true!" Her voice was trembling  "He did agree to come on a date with me today!" She exclaimed.

"I mean yeah sure," Ryuen replied. "But be honest with yourself dear, you are not exactly well, a challenge.  He is naturally going to be more drawn to someone who can keep up with him, and that someone is well, just not you.

Y/n's rook moved closer to the Black King, it was running out of room.

Y/n's hesitated as she put her mouse over the queen. She was considering the diagonal attack, but then chose not to.  She noticed a new opportunity by advancing the pawn to create an unexpected barrier.

"You seem pretty interested in my relationships Ryuen, should I be flattered?"

Ryuen laughed, "It's nothing really, just trying to cure my boredom.  I wouldn't just lose the chance to shake things up with you Ayanokoji.

Y/n slid the queen forward trapping the black king in check

Ryuen leaned down toward Sato's height, his voice was low. "I would keep an eye out for competition Sato."

"Guys like Ayanokoji, dont settle for the easy choice."

Y/n slid the rook forward too trapping the black king in a check position.

Ryuen turned to leave and Ayanokoji looked down at Sato.

"Look Ayanokoji I really like you, do you like me?" Sato said eagerly.

"Im sorry Sato, but I do not think I can be the person you want me to be" Ayanokoji said in a somewhat apologetic voice, but his eyes were telling a different story.  He did not actually care about Sato's feelings.

Y/n moved the queen forward putting the black king in what looked like check mate.

"You can come out" Ayanokoji said as he looked at Karuizawa hiding behind the bush.

Y/n stayed in her room wondering what she should do now, if she made the right choice to stay here and not go back to the white room.
