The silence stretched between them, thick with unspoken emotions. Gavi, unable to bear the weight of it any longer, finally spoke. "João, why? Why do you feel this way about me?"
João's heart ached with a mixture of hope and fear. "Gavi," he began, his voice soft, "I don't know how to explain it. It's just... you. You make me laugh, you make me think, you make me feel... alive. I feel like I can be myself around you, like I don't have to put on a mask. You're the only one who truly sees me, and I... I love that."
Gavi's brow furrowed. "But João, we're teammates, friends. This... this is different."
"I know," João said, his voice cracking slightly. "But it's not something I can control. I can't just turn off these feelings."
The tension in the room was palpable. Gavi's words were a wall, a barrier João couldn't seem to break through. Frustration welled up inside him, and he blurted out, "Don't you see? It's not just about being friends! It's about more than that. It's about..."
He stopped, his voice catching in his throat. He couldn't say it. He couldn't say the words that were burning in his heart, the words that would make everything so much more complicated.
"What?" Gavi pressed, his voice laced with a hint of impatience.
João, unable to hold back any longer, blurted out, "It's about loving you, Gavi! It's about wanting to be with you, not just as a friend, but as something more."
The words hung in the air, heavy and charged. Gavi's eyes widened, his expression a mixture of surprise and disbelief. He was silent for a moment, processing everything. Then, he shook his head, his voice firm.
"João, this is crazy. We can't be... we can't be..."
"Why not?" João interrupted, his voice rising with a mix of desperation and anger. "Why can't we be what we want to be? Why do we have to follow everyone else's rules?"
The argument escalated, their voices rising, their words becoming more heated. Gavi, overwhelmed by the intensity of the situation, turned away, unable to face João's pleading eyes.
João, seeing the pain in Gavi's eyes, felt his anger melt away, replaced by a wave of sadness. He knew he was pushing Gavi too hard, but he couldn't help it. He was desperate, desperate to be understood, desperate to be loved.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He had to find a way to reach Gavi, to connect with him on a deeper level. He had to make him understand.
He walked over to the piano in the corner of the room, his fingers hovering over the keys. He closed his eyes, letting the melody of a song he had heard recently wash over him. He started to sing, his voice soft and gentle, yet filled with an intensity that resonated with his emotions.
"The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad If we got each other, and that's all we have I will be your mother, and I'll hold your hand You should know I'll be there for you"
The words flowed from him, each note carrying the weight of his love, his longing, his vulnerability. He poured his heart and soul into the song, hoping that Gavi could hear the truth in his voice, the truth of his feelings.
